So my trusty VW Passat estate (all 140 bhp of diesel power) has hit 107k. Its paid off.
However its needing a bonnet respray as lacquer peel, new clutch/DMF is on horizon, new discs/pads are needed. Generally it passed its last MOT with not much else mind you.
I reckon to get it into reasonable shape its going to take IRO 900 for the clutch, 150 for discs/pads, 400 for the bonnet (needs done if keeping as looks awful). Maybe wheel refurb if being picky.
So your talking £1450 and that's assuming it doesn't through another big bill for 12 months or so (I do 15k PA).
Its that or trade in for a seat leon/octavia type car - but I kind of hate the thought of paying finance again.
Also its going to be worth less and less - so is this the ideal time to cut the delta between big bills, trade in value and new car?

Spend the money and keep the car...cheapest car is always the one you own and once clutch/dmf is done it shouldn't throw you a bigger than normal bill for another 100k, assuming you service it every 10k!?
Cheers,
Chris
Yup serviced on the button @10k even though its meant to be long life servicing. Its had a few wobbles that are quite common on top, like abs/speed sensors (new hubs needed on back) and a Airbag switch for the passenger side.Cheers,
Chris
