Had my Plus 8 serviced last week. Hugely expensive, and having picked it up I managed about 3 miles before the brake pedal went to the floor. Apparently they had replaced the brake switch for the MOT but failed to tighten the nut (hence complete loss of brake fluid after a few stops). Can anyone recommend a Morgan Garage that is: (a) not completely inept;(b) will not require a re-mortgage for a full service; and (c) will not wave you off to your doom having failed to test drive the car before you collect it.

OK, rant over.

Sorry to hear that Chris. Having just joined the 'Morgan Chapter' myself, I too am surprised by the lack of dealer service. I haven't used them yet, but is Melvyn Rutter or Brands Hatch near you?

Hi,
I notice you are in London, Wykehams, FH Douglass or Hunt and Keal are Morgan dealers there.

There is a new independant Morgan guy in London now who has just started up. He might well be cheaper and better than a dealer.

I do not have his details to hand.

I would complain to the dealer, get them to fix it for free and get a refund on the cost of the service or atleast part of it.

Thanks,
William

Thanks - Moggie front brakes now fixed, but now getting a light oil out of rear n/s hub. Will check it out this evening, but they did change brake fluid and axle oil, so could be connected - either way rear drums now contaminated. Sad thing is the car was working ok before service. Maybe the cars are just bloody difficult to service. I'll have to look at the other dealers on my travels. Thanks for the suggestions.

You could also try Miller Commercial Motors.... 01494 448158. In High Wycombe. Do not be put off by the name, many a morgan can be found slinking round the car park. Won't bancrupt you either.

If anyone needs a good morgan dealer in the north east you could do a lot worse than macdonald racing - they look after my Ginetta G33 (they also used to be a Ginetta dealer) and I cannot fault them - a proper old school garage

Allon and White are very good as well, I now used them for spare parts as they are well priced and do useful bits like a Manifold repair section for £15 rarther than a new manifold at £350.

The cars are well priced as well.

The new, independent guy you speak of is my mate Dan Monk. He has started up under the name Kensington Classics. I'm going to give him a quick plug for no other reason than he's bloody good!

Dan was trained at the Morgan factory and travelled the world as a race mechanic with their FIA GT team. He has fixed, bodged and worked miracles with everything from AC Cobras, to MGs via of course Moggies. His dad builds perfect DB3s copies - it is in the blood.

His workshop is in Astwood Mews which is right by Gloucester Road tube station. He has fixed my Triumph, my Caterham, my integrale. And of course, he's cheaper than any main agent. The guy is a great spanner, on top of which he's one of the nicest people I've ever met.

The number is 0207 370 0736

Just a plug for the independent garages. There are a few about with higher standards, better service, customer care, and cheaper rates! Give them a go.
