Apologies if this has been covered, but of course searching is actively discouraged on PH wink

I'm looking at buying an RV and need to find out how much it will cost to insure. I've had one quote on one vehicle, it's an American Ford Trail-Lite, 6 seats, 6.8L petrol/LPG, value £36k. I'm 60, retired, I have 4 other cars and a Class 1 HGV licence (although the broker wasn't really interested in that).

Flux are quoting around £850 to include European cover. As an example, I pay around £300 for a DB9 and the same for a 5.0 SC FFRR. Is the RV quote in the right ballpark?

TIA.

If it's your first motorhome/RV and you can't add specific no-claims to it, then yes, that's reasonable. Ours was closer to £1,500 in the first year but rapidly dropped down to under £800 after that

CAPP0, as an example, a mate of mine is busy in the process of buying a new Autotrail 65 (based on a Ducato) and was surprised by the insurance. Ok, it’s not as cool as yours, but he’s been quoted £325 inc breakdown. Value IRO £60K. Thought that might be a useful counterpoint as your quote does seem high!

Evening young man smile Hope all is good with you. Thanks for that. It did seem high to me. I have other vehicles insured with Flux and they said that took some degree of NCD into account due to me being an existing customer. These are of course LHD, and the entry-level motors appear to be around 7 litres and either V8 or V10. Hmmm, I haven't owned a V10 yet scratchchin

We started off looking at the "Meet the Fockers" style of coach/HGV/motorhome hybrid but we're erring towards something fractionally less offensive now biggrin. I'll send you a pic. It might even solve the Melezes conundrum!!
