Item I paid for not received. Seller gone quiet.

Hi all,
Need some wisdom, advice.
I required a diesel pump for my Pajero so went on eBay and found one via a breaker who was advertising a car he was breaking. He had one although the part wasnt listed on ebay. Our conversation, where the deal was agreed, was all done via ebay messages which I have kept. I transferred £225 to him via bank transfer and its now been 2 weeks and no pump.
I have messaged him over 10 times on eBay, at first he kept telling me to have wait and its coming, to now where he isnt replying. Ive asked for a tracker number, no reply. My last email to him Ive told him that I want the part by this Friday or a refund, no reply.
I realise now I should of paid via eBay or Paypal but with old cars you're always keeping them to a budget so anyway to save money, I wont do this again.
So, what can I do ? Its £225. I have his details, his address, all emails confirming the sale and transfer details.

I know it might not get you your money back but depending how much the seller uses ebay it might help move them into sending you the pump or refunding you. It's a violation of their terms to use ebay messages to sell outside of ebay.
Small claims court can be used but I've been down this route once before, won and had bailiffs round to the persons house and still didn't get my money back, it just ended up costing me more.
If they're near enough, a knock on their door could be an option. Some people aren't actually that brave in real life and will just fold if you confront them. Not the best of options but worth considering.

I am member of a number of pajero and delica forums and I want to give other users an, awareness of the challenges I've had with this guy. Is there any legal comebacks? I'm not going to slag him off just recount what has happened suggesting the read learn from my experiences. I want to tell him that I will be letting others know about my experience.
Do you actually have the seller’s name and address for service of legal documents? A letter before action isn’t going to get anyone quaking in their boots as some on here may suggest. You may as well just send them a letter saying your dad will come round unless they provide a refund.
As you already know you have broken every rule for buying privately from an unknown source.
You have very little you can do and it would appear you have been the victim of theft/ fraud.
The police will not do anything, EBay has no part in this as you went outside of their rules, the bank won’t care as you willingly authorised the transfer, and just about anything else will be time consuming and costly.
I would put this down to experience and a lesson learned.

Time consuming issuing a small claim notice. Give over it is an easy process and seems like the op would win plus costs. You have very little you can do and it would appear you have been the victim of theft/ fraud.

Sorry this has happened OP.
There are some right tossers on ebay. We bought an item recently which was broken on arrival, a very delicate part was mangled.
I raised a return via ebay and the bloke went bananas at me, called me lots of Names, accused me of fraud, said he went to the 'metropolitan police anti-fraud' unit, was going to take me to court etc.
I got my money back fortunately.
Looking through his history, it appears he'd sold the device previously which was returned when it didn't work and tried it on with me.
I will never ever buy anything complex, delicate or worth more than 20 quid from ebay unless I can see the item first.

I emailed him yesterday asking for either a tracking number or refund. I then told him that I lack confidence that he will reply so I am now looking at what other options I have both legally and criminally. I mentioned I have all communications showing sale and confirmation of funds being received by him. I confirmed that I have reached out to eBay and police's cyber crime unit who have both advised. I also mentioned that I am a member of numerous pajero and delica forums and am checking the legal comebacks of posting a thread describing what has happened here within this transition to allow other users to make their own opinions. (there are no issues if I keep to the facts without any slanderous comments and is seen as a FYI)
I got a reply in 15 mins. Suddenly he was just about to post the pump but now it may not be the right one and he he was just about to post it etc etc. I offered him options but seems his friend has a pump and he will send that. I confirmed to him that if the pump is wrong I will be claiming a refund. I have aksed for a refund, even taken off 25 quid for restocking fees but he wont do it.
Ive given him till 16th July for me to receive this pump or I will follow through with all my listed options. 16th July is 31 days since this happened which is the time most legal entities told me to wait. Ive discovered that I can report to eBay, I can report this transaction to the cyber / police teams (up to the point of when I receive the pump as then it isnt fraud), and he does post on numerous forums which I will post an account of what has happened here. ( Yes I am one of those ). He does have quite a large following on eBay so obviously uses it / needs it.
So, lets see. I do have his address, I have his name, email etc. I am willing to go to small claims court, I have spoken to a debt collector in his area and am willing to fore go the whole amount just for this company to challenge him, yes I am that pi55ed off with him.
im an easy guy to get along with. I have over 600 positive feedbacks on eBay. I buy, I pay, no issues. Im respectful, honest and talk to others as equals. This guy has been rude from the second email. Has clearly tried to pull a fast one one me and suddenly he's now` lost his temper with me, as he told me last night`. All Ive done is pay him straight away and ask for a tracking number !! :-)
