So I currently have a lease on a 3 series which does everything i really need. I am not going to be commuting and my wife has the family barge. A few weeks back I test drove a 911 with the idea of buying a new 911 (probably a dream car) but the whole 12 month wait is really putting me off. I have never wanted a car that long and wonder if by then it will be less practical as my young kids are getting bigger (if i dont commute when will i drive it etc).

I dont really drive my current car fast (330i) but i like the odd bit of exuberance. That said I want something "special" as I will own it as I become 40.

I am test driving a M4 at the weekend (thinking an M3 but they dont have one to drive) and I have always been a fan of the Alfa Giulia Quad.

The other part of me then thinks Q8 with its luxury, air suspension and sensible nature. So i think its either the 911, a sporty german saloon or something big and comfy.

I suppose the advice im after is whether there is another car im missing when thinking about my options. If I am not going for a 911 then Im definitely thinking of more in the M4, Q8 price ranges so what £60-80k and have always preferred new for the warranty and the idea that I know exactly what I am in for with no unexpected bills.

Happy and very grateful for any recommendations or even lookouts for when test driving the M4.

THanks

E-Tron GT? They look awesome, no experience with them mind you - just pretending I was in your shoes and it’s what I’d consider 😂

I must admit, that was one I have looked at (online only) as non were in the dealerships I visited. It looks an absolute stunner and seems to be getting good reviews. It gives me some conflicting feelings though. Id want the noise with the performance, but it does offer performance and a level of luxury and space the others dont.

It’s a tough one, to be honest I didn’t realise just how much some of these cars are brand new, didn’t think an RS6 started at just shy of £100k - that was going to be my other suggestion

It’s kind of insane what 80k can buy you even 6-12 months old rather than new

Best of luck deciding though mate, I’ll keep an eye out with interest

I'd say if you want the comfort of air suspension but also a nice amount of performance (more enjoyable than they have a right to be) with an interior that's 1st class all wrapped up with a nice amount of Warranty, then I'd recommend these two:

S560 Coupe

LC500 these are hard to find but they're worth a test drive, the whole car gets under your skin.also on cars like the one below you can get a full Lexus Warranty.

Not a fan of merc, especially with those screens. Mate has a GLE, quality is unquestionable but just something about them.

The lexus is a stunner and will do some reading into. Thanks for the suggestions and taking the time to get the links but that first interior..... its a no from me.

I'd definitely be going for a sports car if your wife has the practical car, don't get an SUV - boring! Treat yourself to something special

Some alternatives to what has already been suggested

Audi RS5
Ford Mustang 5.0
Jaguar F-Type P450
Lexus RC-F
Lotus Evora
Porsche Cayman (there are a few 4.0 GTS's available)
