New toy first ride - 2002 Hayabusa
Discussion
I've just bought a new (to me) bike, a 2002 Hayabusa, and having collected it locally on Monday from just a few roads away yesterday evening was my first actual 'ride' (not a football fan so quiet roads and sunshine made sense).
I've ridden a lot of bikes over the years but have to say MY GOD this thing is amazing. I've seen reviews (print and video) but you never know if the Hyperbole is real or over-egged.
I've had ZXR750s (2), an old ZX10, a Thunderace, and currently have a KTM990SMT and an old ZX6R, and have ridden other bikes up to a litre, but nothing to made me as wired as the 40 miles I did yesterday on the 'Busa. It didn't feel as big when riding as it it to look at when standing next to it, felt rock solid in corners, and the engine is silky smooth with so much torque you arguably don't need to change gear much and are still bloody quick. I haven't even been past 7k revs yet as I wanted to take it steady.
For anyone wondering if a 'Busa is worth a go, I wholeheartedly say YES.
Couple of pics - really good condition and history, Yoshi pipes, lots of carbon, and only 12k miles.

Thanks both of you. Yes really clean, the seller is an engineer who I know as a friend of a friend so I know she has been well looked after. He's got several projects on the go and much as I thought my 'man cave' (big shed) was cool his is next level stuff.
Only thing I'm going to do is get the old Datatool System 3 removed as I don't trust bike alarms and would rather rely on physical security measures, especially as I intend to rack up some decent miles which will mean far from home.

Thanks all, she is super clean. Came with 3 boxes of the original bits too (from basic plastic trims since replaced with carbon, pillion seat and old hump and even the original exhausts. Will have a sort through and likely sell off original bits if worth doing.
Riding position is great - much roomier than my old ZX6 and wrists stayed comfy for 40 miles which the ZX6 doesn't. Pegs still feel fairly high like the ZX but that's only because I'm 6' 2" and lardy lol. Very quickly felt natural and got the hang of feet up from traffic lights without looking where the pegs were. Off to FOS in the car for Saturday so hoping Sunday will be nice so I can take her out again.
Things that struck me the most are how smooth the engine is and seemingly unlimited torque, and feels so solid on the road as if tyres made of tarmac velcro - new tyres too so should be even better when scrubbed in.
Will post again when I've taken her out again.

Should also say I've made a booking for 3 weeks time for a local garage to remove the alarm and do MOT early too - then the nothing to do for a year. Amazing that MOT history is all straight passes too with only one advisory for indicator flash speed once. Low miles I know but still great for an old bike.

Keep the original bits and keep them clean and in good condition. When you finally come to sell the bike you can return it to standard condition which will then make it look even better and cleaner and you can sell the extras separately.
Congratulations, lovely machine that !
I’ve got the naked version with the Gen 2 ‘busa lump in it, if you think it went like stink below 7k…. Wait till you get some rpm in it ! I’m quite often trundling around on mine as I ride with the wife , every now and then I leave her behind and send it suddenly realising how much more grunt there is up the top end and the front wheel starts facing skywards
Enjoy , but take it easy until you are used to it, the speedo reaches obscene numbers very very quickly on these.

Planning on this being a keeper so parts more likely to just get in the way but I do see your point. When you finally come to sell the bike you can return it to standard condition which will then make it look even better and cleaner and you can sell the extras separately.

Thanks, and yes I want to work my way up to the top end as I don't fancy lifting the front wheel until I'm properly used to the bike. I've watched a lot of YouTube vids on the bike so have some idea what to expect, i.e. soiled trousers I’ve got the naked version with the Gen 2 ‘busa lump in it, if you think it went like stink below 7k…. Thanks - sounds great! There's an air box mod on Hyabusas many people do, check it out on Youtube or similar.
I did it on my Gen 2 and it makes a decent difference combined with a high flow filter element. I seem to recall with a sports exhaust, the air box mod and set up to suit it had about 15 bhp extra and a willingness to rev higher too.
