Put me off Mini One Classic
Discussion
No good lease deals anymore... Used car prices through the roof... So am looking at first ever new car purchase.
I like small cars that handle but can also do long runs in comfort. My regular trip is 150 miles motorway then 50 miles of Welsh twisty A-roads
Thinking of a Mini One Classic, 3dr, manual, with paint & alloys = a reasonable sounding £17.5k.
I don't want the extra power of a Cooper.
Thoughts? Any one got one? Any better ideas?

Wife has one on a 66 plate - when she was looking for another small commuting car, to be honest it wasn't my first choice. I had concerns over reliability and interior space, also as it's only 1.2l would it have enough oomph for safe overtaking on the A9 carriageway.
However, it's been a bit of a revelation - nice and comfortable to be in and no shortage of power, handles brilliantly too. No troubles with it so far; boot is quite small but adequate for our needs.
She's delighted with it, as long as it gives no troubles so am I; would be quite happy to do longer distances in it - it's got a bigger car feel.
Sorry.. not really helping in putting you off it.

Thanks Guys, that's helpful.
I think the current engine is a 1.5 turbo petrol so although not powerful it should be fairly relaxed.
15" wheels should help with ride comfort (and will sure make a change from my current car's 18" with run flat tyres as they are really noisy)
For me the one is the surprise pick of the range, rides much better on the smaller wheels, mine doesn't have fancy infotainment systems to go wrong, if feels like a quality basic model, took it for a drive last week for the first time in ages and its huge fun on the right road. Ive put 40k on a Mini Cooper S in the last two years. Its nice, comfy seats (although seats are subjective). Mines an auto which makes a massive difference to making life more comfortable- i find the standard box not very pleasant to use.
I suspect the Mini One will ride better on small wheels, mine is on 18's and its quite intrusive with road noise and the suspension is obviously firm- i had a regular cooper as a courtesy car and the ride was like a magic carpet in comparison.
only thing might be standard equipment- i had to spec nav, comfort pack (for the armrest) which adds a few £, this was 2 years ago so standard kit may differ, but without options it might be a bit sparse...

Thanks for the replies.
Good to hear the seats are comfy (subjective as you say but still encouraging).
I don't car about any extras & tech so apart from the met paint and little 15" alloys mine will be standard although I think base spec had now been improved quite a bit to include the essential (for me) a/c & leather steering wheel.
Test drive on Tuesday so we shall see! I've had an offer of £1000 off list so that's nice too and it's £4000 odd cheaper than a comparable fiesta so seems good value in the current climate

I bought a late 14 plate one D for my son to learn in and use. Honestly can’t believe what a great little car it is. I don’t want him to pass his test and take it away! 83 mpg Ona run. Much better than the previous generation as I had one of those in the family a long while back. The diesel maps easily too . Good fun to drive and has made me realise how much benefit there is in plenty of sidewall. I like small cars that handle but can also do long runs in comfort. Yes amen to that after 40 profile run flats I'm looking forward to some proper tyres again!Recommended!
ZX10 - thanks for those suggestions. I've taken a good look at the fiesta ST-line and although I slightly prefer it's looks they seem to have become so expensive. The 208 is a nice little thing although I wish they did a 3 door,. There's a Pug garage next door to the mini one so I'll pop in there too

If you want a three door then the DS3 is the one to look at (they are the same car apart from the sheet metal as the 208) as they're three door only.ZX10 - thanks for those suggestions. I agree the ST Line models do seem expensive at the moment but the Vignales are the same price which makes them a bit of a bargain.

The car before last was a DS3! 1.6 diesel in elegance trim and it was lovely. £155 per month on lease - my best ever deal...I agree the ST Line models do seem expensive at the moment but the Vignales are the same price which makes them a bit of a bargain.
Current crop are auto I think so that's a straight red for me
