I have a copy on DVD and watched it with my son a couple of years ago. Talk about Emperor’s new clothes, as a game it was as slow and dull as any I’ve seen, and this is from someone who’s been a season ticket holder at a League Two club for 30-odd years.
It’s best just knowing the outcome and watching the goals rather than the tedium of sitting through two hours of the full shebang.

The greatest players of yesteryear, if you just picked them up and time travelled them into the modern game, would never even make it as pros. Far too slow for a start. Of course, the best players from that era, if brought up on modern training methods and dietary regs, would probably be a lot fitter and faster than they were then.

Gordon Banks actually caught the ball, not flapping at it all the time like Pickford and co.
Bobby Charlton could shoot at twice the speed of Kane with a ball weighing twice as much.

As I said, if we just picked them up as they were and teleported them into modern day football, George Best wouldn't last 5 mins at any club with his attitude to fitness and only allowed alcohol in serious moderation. Bobby Moore was a brilliant reader of the game but wasn't fast in the 60s. Today he'd be miles too slow for pro football. Gordon Banks was 6'1, so small by todays standards. But he was great. so might still be able to make the grade today. Bobby Charlton, a great athlete of his time but slow by todays standards. But as a direct comparison, not sure any could play today, as they were then.
Watched it last night. The recolouring of the original black and white tv picture was very well done. It was very noticeable that both teams were absolutely shattered after 90 mins - the pace of play plus accuracy of passing was pretty woeful by both sides. You can tell that the level of fitness of players in the 60s was miles away from the current era ( it wasn’t uncommon for professional players to be heavy smokers and drinkers in those days and a crafty fag at half time wasn’t unheard of ). It’s surprising how many of the England team look like old men even though Bobby Charlton was only 29 at the time.

Wasn't the best done restoration I've seen, still all scratched, blurred and the recolouring was the usual over saturated poorly registered stuff. Good enough for a DVD but not exactly a great example.
Wrong commentary track too, guess the ITV one was easier to license.
