As per the title really.

I found my old Casio Speed Memory 100 (‘89/‘90, last worn perhaps ‘97) in a drawer the other day. It has loads of sentimental value, so I found a NOS strap on EBay, and put a new battery in it. Worked ok for a while, but some adjustments using the setting buttons were a bit dodgy (random bleeps, then the display began to fade) Then - completely dead after about 10 minutes.

I assume a short somewhere. I’d really like to use it again. Any suggestions? Cheers.

Are you using good quality, genuine, batteries bought from a reliable source?

There's loads of cheap batteries out there, and plenty of "branded" fakes.

I only buy Renata or Maxell watch batteries from my regular supplier - Cousins

Thanks - It was a Maxell battery of the correct type.

I have a quartz from my 18th in 97 that only used to hold a charge for a day. I stripped, cleaned and reoiled it and all's well. Quartz watches need servicing too.

Thanks all.

The analogue function works fine, it's just the digital display that's faulty.

Is there anywhere that repairs them in the UK? If it's a case of £30 or so fine, but it only has sentimental value - memories of British Grand Prix from the '90's...

Does this watch use separate batteries for the analogue and digital parts?

I've had a couple of ana/digi watches (not Casio), and they have used 2 batteries

Just one battery. I get the impression it might be one or more of the button contacts that might be sticking closed, or have corroded.

There's one on Ebay for £65 with a damaged case. Buy that and swap the innards into yours?

Thanks for looking, but no, too much expense and faffing.

Truth is, I was going to wear it again, but really I wanted it working to take a photo of it to go in a photo book I’m compiling on F1. It’s just a personal album with the hundreds of pits photos I took, plus images of anything else that reminds me of those times like stickers, timing sheets, cameras, clipboard, stopwatches…and my Speed Memory watch. It had every lap and average speed of Damon Hill’s ‘93 BGP on it at one point hehe

Cheers.
