OK - so now I've started looking for a tiv, wife says oh yes we have to pay that loan of first......... Ok I wait a few months - more time to look - anyways went to Newtown motors in cwmbran and met Peter Constable - seemed like he knew his stuff, very pleasant too, had a sit in and play in a griff and some chims - but noticed that with my not overly large frame (5'6") it was a bit of a strain getting the clutch all the way down....

I saw a thread a little while back and someone said their 5'2" partner had no problem, but i really was stretching, the seat would not go any further forward, in the Griff I would say it was impossible, better in the Chim - are the pedals adjustable as well? Please don't tell me my hopes are going to dashed because of my vertically challenged nature ?

I do believe you can get adjustable pedals from a company called Leventech for about £100,thye advertise on here.
My MUM, yes my MUM who only about 5ft 2ins with heels on has driven my Griffth(non-adjust pedals) with seat all the way forward and upright with a cushion behind her, must admit it didnt look comfortable.
Cant see how the Chimeara would differ that much to the Griffith.I believe they share the same chassis.

BB

found them www.leventechnology.co.uk/ under the aliminium and interior accessories.

The Griff was different because it appeared the seat was fouling the transmission tunnel sooner than the chim - It felt like I could not get the seat fully forward becasue of this but in the chim the seat would not foul the tunnel and so travelled right up - anyway thanks for the link - hopefully I won't need it (maybe the grif had adjustable pedals and they were set for a lanky bloke?)

BTW sounds like you've got a great mum!

Cheers

I don't think you need the Leven pedals unless you want to adjust the accelerator pedal. The standard clutch and brake pdeals are adjustable as I recall.

Pedals in the chim are adjustable and should enable full control for the 5'6" (vertically challenged? surely not) frame.

I think a combination of 5'6" and 6'6" might mean that rapid handovers at the pub / petrol station / time control might be best avoided so I recommend you avoid dating any of those Amazonian women known to inhabit the Valleys. I suspect your wife has the same opinion!

I'll take her off your hands - does she need regular servicing?

ah yes sorry got confused between amazonian and Anemic and 5'4. The advantage being we share a similer driving position, disadvantage not as easy to get rid off (bless her) - anyway where do you live I'll drop her off later...

P.S servicing required - minor every 3 years

You can adjust the clutch and brake pedals you have. They are mounted on a threaded rod with a nut at the back. Just loosen the nut, unscrew/screw the pedal round until it's where you want it, then tighten the nut again. Even I can do it....

All three peddles are threaded (well they are in my Griff) but like me your previous owner may have wound the peddles in and then cut off the surplus to stop them digging holes in the mat.

So new peddles may be required, though I don't think new ones will be very expensive, there's not much to them.

Cheers,

Simon.

Her indoors is 5'3" or thereabouts and driving the chim is a tiptoe job. I am 6'2" with long legs and I drive with the seat all the way forward....

I'm 5'3" and I find driving the Griff a bit of a challenge. But the pedals are reputed to be adjustable so one of these days I'll fiddle with them and see if it's true!

But until then the problem isn't so great that I can't live with it. Having the seat as far forward as it'll go doesn't cause problems with sitting too close to the steering wheel or anything.

its an 11/16ths Locknut on the early ones though, not a 17mm as you'd think.

Cheers,
Matt.

Can anyone reassure me of my ability to squeeze behined the wheel of a Griff?

I'm 6'4" and hoping to pick up a griff next year, but I've never been inside one of the buggers. Now, I drive an mx5 and although I fit in, I do have a slight lean to the centre, which is quite uncomfortable on longer journeys. Hence I can be seen freezing my nipples off with the hood down (but driving in comfort) in the very best of our English weather.

Am I going to have this compromise with a Griff? Or does the whole PW-insists-on-tall-people-cars issue really work?

Just a note: I'm looking for a CaterField at the moment and let me tell you; if you want a kit car then you can't be tall.
It ain't just the small guys that have problems

Having adjustable clutch and brake pedals is about as much use as a Mars bar in a Sauna. If you adjust the c and b all the way forward you have a 3+ inch gap to the accelerator. So you have to get an adjusable accelerator pedal - takes a bit of persuading leven that you only want the one pedal through - but they are helpfull and did it for me (not shiney race stuff - pointless)

Yeah well I'm 6'4" too and I got a Griff this year and it's fine - as was my S3. I believe PW is even taller and he didn't want to make & flog cars he couldn't drive himself.

I wish my Missus (5'2") could not push the accelerator down to the floor, used to scare the pants off me in our Chimaera.
She used to cope with the heavy clutch though.

Gruffy - why not go to your nearest TVRCC meeting and get to sit in some? You can also ask the owners lots of meaningful questions etc....
