The Importance of Sports Exhaust, PDCC & Sports Chrono Pack?
Discussion
I'm looking to order a 992 Carrera 4S Cabriolet and wondered how important the Sports Exhaust, PDCC & Sports Chrono Package are.
I'm not looking to track this car, and while I do appreciate the sound of a good exhaust note, I'm not necessarily wanting to hear it burbling wherever I go.
So the question is, do I really need the sports exhaust or will I be happy with the sound given off from the standard exhaust?
For me personally, I also find the appearance of the 4 pipes at the back more appealing than the two oval ones, so I'm reluctant to go for the sports exhaust if the sound from the standard one is still pleasant.
As I won't be driving this car particularly hard, comfort is more important than performance, so once again, is the PDCC going to be of benefit to me or a disadvantage?
Finally, I'm looking to spec the Exclusive Manufaktur leather to get the right balance of Bordeaux Leather and Crayon upholstery in the cabin (I think all bright red looks a bit garish). The Exclusive Manufaktur leather option seems to include the Sports Chrono Package inc Sports switch, Porsche Track Precision and Tyre Pressure check as standard - Will any of this make the ride firmer, or is that the PDCC that will do that.
I've spec'd some different cars in my time, but the 911 has to be the most complicated and extensive in terms of options!
Any advice that can be shared would be greatly appreciated.

No experience of 992”s but my last three cars (997,991.1,991.2 all bought pre owned)have had sports exhausts fitted by previous owners. It may be an age thing but they all have a very annoying drone at motorway speeds so I never use them. If I was buying new it would be a no from me. Not a cheap option to spec , so I’d test drive on your normal driving routes and then decide if you need it. The chassis stuff is handy if you do track days ( I do ) otherwise again its surplus to requirements…..sounds like you want an individual looking car so money saved on unneeded can be spent elsewhere….now bracing myself for the “ definitely needs a sports exhaust “ bods to gang up on me😀…good luck with your choice

I think PDCC is a good option (or so Mrs Shiver says!). It stops so much roll and lean when pressing on and keeps the car flatter.
My wife always gets car sick and our latest car with PDCC has been the best for her to passenger in. I can still press on quite nicely and she is not complaining.
It makes a car that handles well already really corner like it is on rails.

I have the Sports Exhaust and Chrono on mine. Having driven several 992's, I've never driven one without Sports Chrono (and I suspect there are very few) so couldn't tell you what difference the dynamic engine mounts make. I do like the steering wheel control though and find myself using it a lot!
The Sports Exhaust is pretty good on mine and I find it's a good balance between sounding good but not too loud. A lot of people don't think it's loud enough but each to their own. I too prefer the look of the 4 pipes though!
PDCC, I've never driven a car with it so couldn't comment.
If you want comfort though, make sure you avoid SPASM. I have it and it's slightly on the hard side so stick to the standard.
I'd also recommend the 18 way seats if you're looking for comfort - I had a demo for a week with the 4-way Sports Seat Plus, and despite being in theory the same seat shape, my 18-ways were a LOT more comfortable. Even the missus commented on the difference!

The button on the steering wheel is convenient to have but not essential. The thing on top of the dash is useless. Would be better as a digital display that can be configured to show more functions, including an analogue effect clock. Conclusion - I would order it. But for what it's worth I have friends with Porsche's who have been told by their sales person, that they must have it, and do not even know what it does.
I don't have sports exhaust on my Turbo S - and find the sound entirely satisfactory. Conclusion - waste of money for me. The 4 exhaust tips look better too.
I have never found the optional multi adjustment seats necessary - I've got both, standard and 18 (?) ways, and can get comfortable in both. Conclusion waste of money. But many will disagree.

Firstly, thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate the time you've all taken to share your opinions.
In summary, I think for me and for what I want this car for, I'll avoid the PDCC as it also requires rear axle steering (so £4k in total!).
I suspect the sports exhaust is also unlikely to be particularly beneficial to me, and I do (as others have also said), prefer the 4 pipe look.
Will definitely avoid the SPASM also!
As for the Sports Chrono Package, I'm not sure I'm really going to use this, but it sounds like it's one of those options which is kind of expected. In fact, I suspect it may have a greater negative impact on value at time of resale if not present, than the £1,600 it actually costs, so will add this.
Once again, thank you all for taking the time to reply and share your thoughts.

In my opinion Sport Plus is where a Carrera S really comes alive, so to me Sport Chrono is essential. I’ve heard a couple of modern turbocharged 991 and 992 Carrera S models and they sound extremely dull compared to their NA counterparts. I’d need PSE to liven them up.
PSE goes hand in hand with Sport Chrono and really adds to the experience. It’s switchable, so when I’m on the motorway I just turn it off. It’s on everywhere else though.
PDCC I’m not particularly sold on for road use.
None of this is a head purchase, it’s all heart. PSE and Sport Chrono don’t make sense until you’ve got them switched on whilst driving down your favourite road.

Driven PSE and SC, ordered without. 18 months on don't miss either. Also prefer the four pipes.
One person will say everything is important, another will say a base Carrera is all you need.
Try them and see what you think. The 'importance' is really down to whether you feel it's important.

I’ve driven a Carrera without PSE and SC and it doesn’t sound anything like this clip of my car. All subjective of course but I would need both. One person will say everything is important, another will say a base Carrera is all you need.

Right, it’s very personal for these options, but as follows I added / avoided on my C4S coupe.
PSE - actually didn’t offer me much… wife has on the macan turbo and I switch it off, just find it aids lower end noise but nothing once the flat 6 starts to howl. I just avoided for the standard 4 pipes.
SC - just great to flip between modes and very useful.
SPASM - tested and avoided, absolutely rock hard, cornered well and testament to the stiffness of the chassis, but felt skittish uncomfortable….. leads onto…..
PDCC - so softer pasm has slight more roll but is far more comfortable a ride, add PDCC and “bye bye body roll!” Now with this you have to have….
RAS - 992 isn’t a big car by my standards, but it definitely adds a degree of nimbleness to the drive, it’s very easy to ignore but very subtle in the way it works.
Other odds and sods - interiors are nice anyway, but paying that much if you want to go all out…. Go for it!
Seats - 18ways are super comfy! Just make sure you set them up right or they can become back ache hell!
I’m sure whatever you pick you will be happy!

I wouldn't have a Porsche sport cars without the PSE. I paid £2k to fit on my used Boxster type 987 which cost £19500 from a Porsche Franchise; that includes £1250 for the cost of the two extended warranty. I would rather have a hyper diesel like a BMW 440d x-drive with 516 lb-ft of torque and save some money on fuel. PSE with valves open the Boxster emits an exotic car sound like an R8. £2000 is fair bit to spend on £18250 car but as I say I wouldn't be without it, I did tell the OPC the stock exhaust should sound like the PSE with the valves open.
The Sport Chrono I had retrofitted for £1000 primarily because the car had a PDK gearbox and in automatic mode the PDK wouldn't allow the car to hold any revs. I do like the throttle response as it feels like a sport car when sports mode is engaged. I daily the car and sometimes in town/city traffic or when you have had a long day you just want to get from A to B stick it in normal mode, switch the PSE off and you would think you're in BMW 3 series, no frame relaxing journey. I'd bought it over the Sport Design steering because you can just use the sport mode in PDK automatic mode and feel you're in a sport car.
I'm not sure what PDCC is but I would spec PASM, with 19 inch wheels and DSC V1 PASM controller (an extra £1000) it makes the car a comfortable GT cruiser and yet when you press on or on track the car handles on point. A true Jekyll & Hyde car. When you want to have fun it's there and when you've had a long day or got 230 mile motorway plus journey, it turns into comfort biased cruiser, just eats up the miles. If it's a weekend car it's probably not necessary but then I would have just got a Lotus...

Regarding PDCC, like many I have my favourite piece of road which my 981 Cayman GTS would eat up. This car had the x73 lowered stiffer suspension, PTV and new MP4S tyres but would still roll and sort of skip on some bends which I believe was the PTV intervention. My 991.1 GTS with PDCC just stays flat, grips and goes.
