Is there a running in procedure with a turbo s or is it the same as normal Carrera? My car arrives at dealer next week, but I’m at work till 16th of august! Then there is a track day available on 18th so wondering if I can take it straight there? Done this with my 4s so hoping turbo is the same. ????

I tracked my 992 Turbo S after 2 days, at just over 500 Miles, just take it easy for the first 30 mins, more important not to be to hard on the brakes or you will end up Glazeing the Pads. The weak link is tyre psi keep an eye on these due to the weight they do go very high very fast. If PZs they take about 3 dial downs before they hold at 31/33 Hot. From understanding whist care needs to be taken they are not like the GT3 NA that has to go through more heat cycles due to the exotic materials used in its engine.

Checked with dealer no running in required! Its a invite from McLaren Glasgow to knockhill so will be interesting to see how it compares to a 720s!

It’s not just the engine that needs running in…gearbox and the rest of the drivetrain components should be treated sympathetically for first few hundred miles like everything else should be. Depends how long you’re keeping it really….I’ve still got my GT3 I took delivery of in 2018 which I knew I would keep so I ran it in….there was a post on Rennlist about what AP recommended which I can’t remember now but it was basically increase engine revs from 500 miles and the obvious stuff like varying use not letting car idle etc.

Fingers crossed won’t have it past the end of its warranty, will be more sympathetic with the running in of the RS if I get one !

With mine i followed AP comments, 500 miles then send it on track at Silverstone ran great!

The Owners Manual for my 992 Turbo S says that 4000 rpm should not be exceeded for the first 1800 miles (3000 kilometres).I followed this because I intend keeping the car. I would think that the engineers at the factory know more about it than a salesman at the Porsche dealer.

Agreed and I will be doing the same with my Spyder ( only another 800 miles to go). I cannot understand the mentality of people who spend a small (large!) fortune in a car and then abuse it. I have always extended “mechanical sympathy” to my cars - a “generation thing” I guess. If you enjoy seeing cars driven to extremes - drifting, doughnuts etc then you are not going to worry about runn8ng a car in!

The manual isn’t written by an engineer, more than likely a marketing person then lawyer. I can’t believe people still run cars in this way, effectively it can be worse for the engine. Speak to an engine builder.

I am surprised at them stating a running in period in the manual but first service is not for 2 years! BMW's M stuff need there first service at 1200 miles which kind of makes a running in period logical! Surprised if they state that in the manual that they don't want it in for a service after that's complete.

I would still change the oil after a 1000 to 1500 miles regardless of what the manufacturer says

Have had a 991.2 and a 992 Turbo S and didn't really run either in strictly. My view is that getting the oil up to temp before you go up higher in the rev range is probably more important.

Of course the running in issue is clouded by the fact that people who buy the car on finance generally never own the car. They therefore don't care what happens to the car down the line, when damage to the engine and drive train might become evident to a later owner. I still think the Porsche engineers at the factory know best about running in. If you are going to keep the car, I would recommend following what the driver's manual says.
