Is this WhatsApp message okay to send?
Discussion
Hi all, I have just re-downloaded 'Whatsapp' and wanted to ask if it is appropriate to sending this message - individually - to all of my contacts, or is it a bit of a 'spammy' message
Hey all, I am not a spartphone kinda person so don't really use one much, but I have been doing so since about April. I just re-downloaded the Whatsapp app as I always found it pretty useful (esp. with international calls) but have discovered on this new handset (same number) that all my previous chats have gone. It's been a while since I used Whatsapp - about 2 years, so some may not know who I am, I think.
Am I okay to send a quick 'Hi _, I am back on WhatsApp now!!
' or something similar (open to suggestions!) okay - and not to spammy to send all of my contacts, so they know who I am and maybe re-add me...If they've got your number saved in their phone already with your name it will show up in their WhatsApp contact list and vice versa for you once you refresh your WhatsApp contact list.
I'm guessing you can add your profile pic as well so any people that forgot about you will see its you if you text them.
Me personally, I wouldn't bother sending a text out to everyone unless it's to certain people that I actually want to connect with.
Don't see anything wrong with saying hi it's me just letting you know I'm on WhatsApp, like you have stated.
Or you can put you sim back in your old phone, go to chat then backup chat.
All your chat history will get backed up to the cloud,Google drive etc then put sim back in new phone and sign it in again using your number and your chats will then download to your new phone.

You can get all your chats moved to the new phone if you still have the old one. If on Android, put your SIM back in the old phone, use WhatsApp to backup to your Google Drive and then move the SIM back to the new phone. Set up WhatsApp and then restore the backed up chats from Google Drive. I assume iPhone would be similar using iCloud.
As for sending that message, why not just message people when you want to actually make contact with them? I wouldn't object to getting such a message from you but I would think it was a bit odd if you weren't someone I knew that well. The fact you're not in touch with people via other means perhaps suggests they're more acquaintances than close friends so why not just message them as required rather than a generic message to all?

Have you really signed up to ask us that? Is spammy? No, you're not offering anything for sale, you're not trying to solicit services or information. Why are you so worried its not ok?

If you now have logged in on your new phone you can’t go back and recall saved chats on your old phone if you are on iPhone. Not sure on Android but on Apple one it logs you in on a phone it will log you out on your old one I think.
On Android the chats and media are still there but you have to put the SIM back in to access (hence the advice to swap the SIM back to the old phone, let WA take a backup, put the SIM in the new phone and restore the backup to the new device). Let it backup media as well and they'll all be restored to the new phone too.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
