I've just ordered a copy of BF2 having seen a number of positive reviews. I've not played any of the earlier games in the series, but it looks like fun!

Anyone else playing this at the moment?

I'm still playing the demo.

You'll need the patch its up to 1.02 now (although it says its installing 1.01 when you patch it don't be fooled )

The patches fix the server browser apparently and my oh my did it need fixing!

Its fun but the team killing for vehicles is really annoying.

Just upgraded to 2gb, from 512! 512 is pushing it if you run at anything more than low detail tbh.

Its a very good game, and makes me smile everytime i play.

I have allowed my fire wall to ecept B2 but it just does not want to hook up like b1942?

Any ideas what I can do

It is a properly good game but you need quite a beefy system to run it well otherwise you might have to turn some of the flash gfx off.
Ranking system and stats is pretty cool. One of my housemates has been unemployed and addicted to this game for the last month so my character (dogflaps) has been promoted a couple of times now to Corporal (thats about 10000+ points). I think we're on about 5000 kills. Also, ranked about 500th out of 600000 in the world for grenade launcher kills!

I should get it and have a go really, but tried a few fps games recently and realised something... having not touched one for a couple of years I'm now incredibly bad at them... either that or everyone else got better.

Used to be quite handy once upon a time (clans, league matches and the like), but I'm properly rubbish now.

After all that, I just tried to install BF2 only to find it crashes to desktop after the splash screen. Guess who forgot to check the minimum graphics card specs? D'oh! Looks like my faithful AthlonXP 2100 & GeForce Ti4600 -based rig has finally reached end-of-life [sniff].

At least my new Athlon FX & SLI powered PC is nearly finished, which *will* run this game well . Hopefully I can be up and running with it by next week, to enjoy some online BF2'ing.

just managed to get online. WHAT a game. great fun. the next prob i have is on some servers I get kicked saying i have an old version on punkbuster. but I have already uploaded the newest patch.

So what Am I doing wrong?

dl the program called PBWEB.exe from www.evenbalance.com
make sure you get the BF2 version, place it in your battlefeild2/PB directory, and then run it. will take about 5 mins (depends on BB connection), and it should update alright

Another quick question for you. My BF2 ping is anything from 150-250. but on counter strike its much lower say 30-50. Any idea why it is such a bad connection. I try and make sure they are local servers and not from along way a way.

luck is all, i think. i run XFIRE, and normally get 65-125ms ping on CS, but rarely get higher than 50-60ms on BF2. best bet is to google for uk servers, or clans, and talk to them. Multiplay and jolt are usually good to find uk servers. OR try getting intouch with www.5punk.com, cos theyve got a server, and its also very good

yep Im playing every night usually on the packed EA UK servers or the jolt ones.

Its really an awesome game

Played the commander role for the first time today after two weeks of having the game ,and what a hoot it is.

Only tried special forces and medic up till now so only really scratched the surface.

needs a hefty system unfortunatley, but lowering some of the graphics settings really improves the fps without affencting overall quality that much if you need.

Make sure you join a squad, eventually if your ranking improves, you will lead it and this is the best apsect of the game because with a good team (always need a medic) the gameplay is really thrilling.
