Hi all is there anything out there for around 7.5K that has a nice sound system and is fairly frugal (35mpg) that is a coupe ? As lockdown opens I will be back in the office and doing around 10-15k per annum and would like something comfortable with a nice sound system

Mercedes W212 coupe? E350cdi seems to fit the bill nicely. I know there was a Harmon Karden Logic7 option available on those.

635d maybe if you like the looks?

Audi A5.

If ULEZ is relevant to you then petrol versions of above although they may be high VED.

If mpg isn't top priority and other body shapes are allowed then the Lexus LS430 is arguably the quietest car about and has an amazing Mark Levinson stereo. They are old now though.

I think a well specced E350 is where I would start.

Leftfield suggestion. Appreciate this is also not a coupe but avoids diesel so is ULEZ friendly and also should be super quiet with a great stereo. Lexus GS450H.

Boot space is very poor though and seats don't fold. Not sure of your requirements on luggage space.

These seem reasonable value given the current state of the market.

Having had MB, BMW and Audi Coupes, Audi has the best audio of the three, IMHO.

A 245 BHP 245 TDI A5 is a lovely thing.

My g/f has an A5 TDI - always feels like the suspension is rock solid to me, at least as a passenger. It would put me off if I wanted a comfortable car.

Do you think it's worth saving a bit more to get the face lifted version of the E class? Really like the look of the Audi as well. I expanded my search to hatchbacks and it seems like the 120d is a good buy but heavily dependent on spec as a lot of them do not have the H/K system which I would want. Car is needed by October and can maybe save 5K more by then.

For what reason? You're mileage means it'll depreciate at a similar rate, you'll have just spent more.

If you actually want a nice sound you should actually look for a car with the standard set up, go to your local Audio Specialist spend between £500-1k & you'll have a great set up.

In most cases the upgrade consists of the same setup but with a better amp & some extra speakers.

If you want the Audi A5 to be comfortable, avoid the Sport and S-Line models, try and find an SE model on smaller wheels. I'd also be a little worried about the high mileage on these A5s if you're going to be sticking another 15k a year on them. The petrol ones won't be very economical at that mileage either as there will be a load of carbon buildup on those direct injection engines.

I actually really like that V6 Laguna that ZX10 posted!
