Odd fault when Google Maps route planning

I'm trying to plan a local driving route using Google Maps on my laptop this morning.

I click to create a start point and click again to create a destination point a short distance way but when I drag the destination point along the road the name of it in the side panel changes to Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean or Arctic Ocean, the message "Sorry, your search appears to be outside our current coverage area for driving." appears and the route vanishes.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Are you on a VPN? If I'm on my works VPN, then my mapping will drop me between Africa and South America at random points when using the map. I don't really care enough to find out why it does it, but it sounds similar to yours.

No VPN but I've tried a different browser (Firefox) and it's doing it there too; my usual is Opera.

ETA: Was doing the same exercise last night with no problems.

Same here,my home to the BP garage 1.5miles away ends up as the Atlantic ocean

Still not working. Initial route works OK, but if another destination is added, or the route is dragged to a different road, it crashes with an apology.

Huh, same here. Very odd!

I also managed to get it to show 'Bolomba, Democratic Republic of the Congo' as a destination.
