Birmingham recommendations
Discussion
Does anyone have any general recommendations for good restaurants in central Birmingham (or short taxi ride)? Open to all budgets, and rather independents than chains.
A. Any cuisine
B. Good Indian food
I did want to try Opheen but it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and they are the only nights I’m visiting next week.
Many thanks.

Personally I think the best Indian in Birmingham is Asha’s, and by some margin but it’s not cheap.
As mentioned, Simpsons is great, definitely consider Carter’s in Moseley (10 minutes in a taxi) and Folium in Jewellery Quarter. Chung Yin Garden is on of the best Chinese restaurants around if you want dim sum and something different from what you get is most restaurants.
Worth having a look at this as well

Not lived in Brum for 20 years now but I used to love the proper Balti houses on Ladypool Road. Not sure if this is still a thing now but superb curry with family naan bread as big as the table and no cutlery. Used to go most Fridays for a Balti low cost excellent grub. Happy days.
Yep it sure is. Adils is still there too, the original.craigjm said:

Went with Ashas in the end.
Great meal, we had the experience menu. They agreed to mix the platter course up so one had lobster and the other the lamb and then gave smaller portions of the kebabs than normal on each plate. Lobster was lovely, but the lamb was incredible.
Rest of the meal nice, absolutely stuffed by the end. Carb loaded for the next 2 months!!
The other night there ended up being a simple chain restaurant.
Cheers

Pleased you enjoyed it. I’m trying the experience menu next month. It’s not a cheap place but always great quality IMO hence I think it’s the best in Brum Great meal, we had the experience menu.
