Not specifically Italy but recently imported from Norway
The UK based transport firm were excellent, and they recommended a firm to do the paperwork who did the job and liaised with transport to get the car through customs.

DVLA took their time, but was roughly to their service standard

I fancied a road trip initially but that appears to be awkward these days.

Not from or two Italy, same scenario though, Greece pist brexit

Itcnit worth getting it transported yourself, or driving it yourself. Would have done the car in question on my own transporter, would loved to have done the trip, but it didn't make financial sense when there are specialists that handle everything including import duties.

You pick up the car from the depot it arrives at, they all work together, or have it delivered to you then register.

I used TWINWHEEL LOGISTICS, absolutely no issues.

Hi, thanks for the reply, who did you use?
I've tried two companies, one said "no can do", the other quoted a ball park figure (as that's what I asked for) of £4650

The friend in Athens I shipped the car for ended up paying approx 2.2k duties paid for collection at the port, plus 150 for me to collect and deliver the car to Twinwheel.

I just find it easier to drop off myself rather than waiting for another transporter.

Thanks, similar to what I've been quoted elsewhere.
Sadly on a car at £9K plus whatever duties, headlight replacement etc costs it becomes unworkable.
A chap I know brings a specific model back from Italy for business, flies out and drives back normally, reckons about £4K as well if I were to employ a carrier.

Need to find someone coming home with an empty trailer....

My original plan was to drive it back.
Norwegian export rules made it complicated enough and by the time I'd paid for petrol and other costs of getting the car into the UK it wasn't worth the saving.

This is always my thinking, I have done Ireland regularly but mainland Europe, work out my costs and look at other options, they usually make more financial sense.

Always the risk of breakdown, you always spend a lot on food and drink, and you can be earning money or doing your own thing at home. All consideration to be taken in.

As much as I love a long road trip, ir has to make sense before doing it.

Yes, but it was a 70 year old car so nut much duty, and you will be surprised how much cheaper it is if the car is delivered to the company, you don't insist on time limits. And collect the other side.

To them it is a simple load and unload exercise, paperwork they deal with every day. Employ people to do it.
Arranging collection and delivery takes time, they use outside contractors and add to the cost to cover the time organising.

In these days of us being sold convenience people have become expectant of it.
Doing your homework yourself, organising parts of the plan yourself, getting you ass off the sofa and your mind away from a screen can save you a lot of money, and often a lot of waiting around and other niggles relying on several different companies or individuals.
