Any PC builders out there - VGA light on mobo frustration
Discussion
Hi all
I have been running a self built PC without any issues for years and my 32" 1080p TV that I have been using as display has been donated to elderly mother so I want to connect to my TV (4k).
Connected up to HDMI on the newer TV and no video output, red VGA light on mono. Tried reseating the gpu and also tried using a different slot in the pc - no change. Red VGA light on the mono, no output.
If I unplug the HDMI and boot, all mono lights go out as normal - presumably as no device connected for the GPU to output to?
Short of driving back to my mother's house and getting the old TV back, is there anything else I can do?
Thanks all

Might be something to do with your output HDMI not being 4k compliant, it needs to be at least HDMI v1.3 for 4k preferably HDMI v2.0 upwards. If it's an old PC it might not be. You need to find out what your HDMI output is. One solution if it isn't is to use a Displayport instead again check versions on here - https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/features/displaypo...
A red VGA light on the motherboard suggests an issue with the GPU not being detected at all. You said you've re-seated the card but have you double-checked the power supply cables to the GPU (both at the card and the PSU if modular)?
Might be worth re-seating it again just to be sure.

Have retrieved the old screen temporarily and connected - works perfectly. Also whilst at my mum's i tested it connecting to her 4k living room TV. Worked. Same HDMI cable used.
So I think it must be something to do with the handshake between my PC and my TV at home. Or it might just be the TV throwing its toys.
Its a fairly cheapo Hisense so maybe it is not having it.
