Saw this line in an article in The Times today and thought it was a good quote to use for discussion.

Anyway...discuss away...

Presumably you want to talk about diversity? Diversity in what? Cars? Cats? People? Igneous rock formations? Some clues might be helpful.

The "headline" doesn't have any context, are you able to expand?
"Difference" between what and what for example?

Great diversity of species on Limestone grasslands, a lot of which can be found in the Pennines for example, and which are important breeding
habitats for many declining species such as Curlew, Golden Plover, Dunlin, Hen Harrier and Short Eared Owl.

Yes, excellent subject to discuss.

Unless you were meaning more discussion about humans?, in which case I'm out.

You think it needs context? Really? Hmm, I thought it was actually interesting as a general quote applicable across a wide range, indeed, most, topics. But, thats just me.
Frankly Id say it was an aspect upon which NPE could debate ad finitum!

In this instance, the quote came from an article with the below headline:

England’s biggest argument is still with itself.
Viewed from Scotland, the English ‘culture wars’ seem a crazy demonstration of a people untethered from themselves

A subject of importance actually, given the fires that have gone across the northern moors and the raging debate over the management of the ecosystem up there. As a Lancs lad, I keep an eye on that discussion.

I believe Saint Greta is, as we speak, drilling test holes in the Trough of Bowland in the search for electrified pixie dust. Can't get much more diverse than that, eh?

Is this a thread about how a dance troupe was formed?

OK, I'll bite. But first I need the context explained in simpler terms

1) What is the specific relevance of a view from Scotland ?
2) What are the English 'culture wars' ?
3) What does "a people untethered from themselves" mean ?

I was confused with the post, now it makes even less sense. If that was aimed at giving this thread more context I think it has failed.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

From the perspective of a sentient human looking back at everything that led to his existance; diversity has been great.

In big picture terms, diversity is essential both to the Earth as an ecosystem, and to human development.

It seems like a bit of a "bears st in the woods" statement.

How would one have diversity without difference?
