Discussion
Can anyone recommend me a graphic card that is approx 2 years old.
Just built my new pc but baulked at paying silly prices for a Graphic's card.
I built the pc to hopefully run MS FlightSim.
I think its fairly high spec but I've had to stick in a graphics card that I had laying around that must be ten years old an Nvida 8800GT last used with Windows Vista!!!. obviously a major bottle neck in my system.
My new system is
Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming (AMD AM4) DDR4
X570 Chipset ATX Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Twelve Core 4.8GHz (Socket
AM4) Processor
Patriot Viper Steel 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-
28800C18 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit
WD Black 1TB SN750 M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen3
Solid State Drive (WDS100T3X0C)
Lian Li Lancool 215 Midi Tower ARGB, Tempered Glass
Black
Super Flower Leadex III ARGB 750W 80 PLUS Gold
Modular Power Supply
Watercooled
Nvidia 8800GT

Any second-hand card that should cope, i have know idea of cards that were good 2years ago, max of £300~

You know that all the secondhand prices got pushed up as well?
Indeed I do.....still plenty of used 1660 Supers on ebay at the £300 mark.....edited to add - just had a peek on ebay and it seems that 1660 Supers are bonkers prices.....humble pie being eaten :-)

Nice build - maybe an SN850 PCIe4 SSD would go better with the high spec of your other components, 7GB/s serial read instead of 5 GB/s
I just put an RTX 3060 Ti in my office PC (I have a 3070 in my gaming PC) - prices are coming down and it runs FS2020 nicely, hopefully more so after the imminent performance rewrite. I’ not sure that much less is going to satisfy you on FS2020. My card replaces an EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ which was getting a bit frustrating

Thanks, i'll have a look at that Nvidia GTX 1660 Super its in my ballpark figure.
Is the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super only card worth looking at.

980ti is a bit quicker despite being older. I'm just about to get rid of mine having bought a 3070ti, and they seem to be going for £230ish on that ebay. Buy it now prices for 980 Ti under £300 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=gtx+980+ti&...
980 Ti vs 1660 Super comparison game benchmarks - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ8SK5jA4AE
Ah - looks like my "a bit quicker" was mildly optimistic - slightly quicker in a couple of those, slightly slower in others. So about the same performance, but double the power draw.
I'd been using mine at 4KUHD for less demanding games (such as Trailmakers), 2560x1440 for newer/shinier (eg Far Cry 5) with slightly reduced settings, and generally hitting 60fps, which is why I'd not upgraded for so long.
Just trying to decide whether to play safe with CEX at about £130 or risk ebaying at maybe £230.

The 980ti ran 4K in a lot of games, and QHD in the others - I don't remember having to drop lower than that, and I don't like anything under 60fps. I did adjust quality in more recent stuff - I've not used MS Flight Simulator but I seem to remember reading that it's pretty hungry at higher resolutions and detail levels.
userbenchmark suggests that the 980ti is about 12 times the power of the 8800, the 1660S is about 11 times but it'll vary between titles. Probably whichever you can get at a more sensible price, and then a 30x0 when you can get one at around MSRP - they are starting to pop up a bit more regularly I think, I got mine from Scan via a Discord alert. Or by that stage, a 40x0...

Just been checking prices of the 1660s and some are heading above £400, was checking Scan PC and they had a bundle deal for a EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB SC GAMING Turing Graphics Card w/ EVGA 600 W2 80+ ATX Fully Wired PSU, 1710MHz Boost 6ZUD0 £379.99 i bought that as it said it was 4k no idea if its a good card but it seems a ok price compared to others. probably jumped the shark don't know what the psu is for but its on its way.

The card is fine, but I'd throw away the non-modular PSU.Not sure that GPU will deliver high FPS at 4K - maybe about 20fps on Ultra, and maybe upto 30fps on High/Medium?
This is what you'd expect at 1440p Ultra on better GPUs:

This is what you'd expect at 4K Ultra:

Although there has been some optimisation of the game since launch, so those graphs may be a little low.

Surely 1080 ti? The card that keeps on giving.
I don't know enough about cards, i had to jump in somewhere, i was going to get a 1660s but the prices are high saying that the price of those 1080ti are also up there, will have to live with what i have ordered and it is brand new and i now have a new psu to sell also.
