An employer has certain obligations under the equality act towards disabled people, this includes dyslexia and may be required to pay for a test and costs of meeting any criteria deemed necessary. Thus for a self employed person this becomes a tax deductable business expense.

Is the same true for ADHD, if said condition is suspected to be affecting work perfomance

I'm aware more general medical stuff is not tax deductible.

Why is the employer wanting to pay for an ADHD test for a member of staff?

The Employer is supposed to make reasonable adjustments if a person has a disability,

The employer isn't required to pay for costs relating to testing or treatment of that disability.

Thanks for replies, perhaps I'll try another angle

If a person is suffering effects believed to be ADHD, 3 clinician's (2 NHS Inc GP and one private) all concur, person is current experiencing issues affecting their ability to work safety, and NHS assessment service is measured in years. Private assessment is many hundreds of £.

Could a private assessment be reasonable for an employer to provide and write off as a business cost?

What is the purpose of the assessment? Is it to identify adjustments needed for the Employee to help them carry out their role?

For example - when a person is diagnosed with a physical disability we normally ask a suitably qualified OH person to carry out an assessment on them and their working environment to try and identify what adjustments we should make in order to make things easier for them. we pay for the assessment, then we pay for any equipment which may be required.

What is the aim or purpose of the ADHD assessment? How is it linked to their employment?

Breify what's is suspected to be AD is affecting the person's ability to do their job safely and to the required standard and impacting the business.

An assessment is mandatory before any medication can be prescribed.
