Vibration at speed

Hi All

I have had a 97 4.2, (running on 18" Spiders) since the end of May. At about 90mph or so I get quite a vibration, but up to that point it is fine. The vibration seems to be speed not rev related, so I am thinking wheel balance as an easy starting point. Any other thoughts?

Have the tyres been replaced/swapped recently? Could be that old NASCAR favourite, "a loose lugnut": Check all 5 on each wheel are equally tight. Also try swapping the locking wheel nut to a different position on the same wheel.

Have a quick check round the tyres for bulges.....

The first vibration I had was caused by an egg shaped bulge on the inside of a front tyre,

The second was a couple of months later, when a rear went flat, and it transpired that a previous owner repaired rather than replaced !!

Needless to say, I have now changed them all.. end of vibration

Found out my wheel was slighly buckled when i had the same problem!!!

Ditto.... the spiders due buckle easily and even a small amount will cause a big wheel shake......

I will give the wheels a good looking at over the weekend.

Has anyone every successfully rectified a buckled spider,(had a 17" Azev on a Saab sorted out OK once) or is it new wheel time?

I beleive you can.... if you do get this done successfully please drop me a line as both of my fronts require the same. I've had mine super finely balanced but there is still some wobble at speed

My car had bad vibes at approx 90mph just after I first bought the car. Its had the wheels balanced numerous times and although its a lot better the vibration is still a bit but not quite as much. After 90 is seems to get better..you may just have to live with it..
