BMW X3M tyre choice
Discussion
My X3M needs a new set of tyres and I’m keen to try something other than the Continental’s which came with the car, and have only lasted 8k miles!
I’ve been informed that the tyres must be “BMW Star” marked / approved. Is this really the case?
The only BMW “approved” tyre I can find are the Continental tyres…
I was planning to try the Goodyear AS3 on the front and AS5 on the rear, would this tyre be OK?
I would ordinarily like the Michelin PS4S but cannot find anyone with 255/40/R21 in stock…
Thanks.

Are they a square or staggered set up?
My understanding (on older models) is that for a staggered set up, Star Marked tyres important to maintain the appropriate and equal rolling radius between front and rear to prevent issues with the transfer box. Whether that is still applicable for the new models I'm not sure.

It is indeed a staggered setup. 265/40 at the rear and 255/40 at the front. My understanding (on older models) is that for a staggered set up, Star Marked tyres important to maintain the appropriate and equal rolling radius between front and rear to prevent issues with the transfer box. Most of us on the X3M forum have swapped to 265/295 PS4S, both available with BMW * marking.
Quick question - do you know what tyre pressure those size tyres will need? The Merc GLC 63 appears to have the same size tyres with 38psi at the front and 42 psi at the rear?
Thanks.
