Hi folks, I need a new bike helmet but am far from an expert when it comes to bikes and associated kit.

My current helmet is about 15 yrs old, cost £25 back then and is remarkably uncomfortable. I have the added consideration that I have a very "aerodynamic" haircut.

What do I need to spend to get something reasonably good and comfy?

It will be used for both mountain biking and road biking.

I dont think there is any substitute to trying loads on - to make sure the fit is right.

I end up with Kask for road biking as I have a very weird shaped head! Their biggest just fits but is a struggle with a cycling cap underneath too.

The Poc Omni Air resistance has a removable peak so is a great option for road and MTB.

Good call. Thanks.

Bright orange one for £24 ordered. Decent reviews and certainly can't be any worse than the one I have just now!

How have you put up with discomfort for that long?

I also had very cheap cycling shorts so the undercarriage discomfort masked the head discomfort.

I've got a couple from them, they're great if you have the right shaped head. It really makes a difference.

I found my Bell Stratus very comfortable and can confirm from first hand experience that it performs very well in hard impacts (although I don't remember it...) Unfortunately buying a decent helmet right now, in a decent colour, is somewhat more tricky then usual.

Good shout. I bought one last year Carnac Notus, I think £15 at the time (their prices fluctuate dramatically) to replace a broken Kask Mojito. Can't fault the Carnac, as comfy as any helmet I've owned.

Well the CARNAC PODIUM SL ROAD HELMET that I ordered from Planet X has arrived and I can confidently say that is in a different league to the rubbish one I was using before.

For £25 you can't go wrong I reckon. So much more comfortable and and it now feels like I am wearing a helmet instead of balancing a strange polystyrene plate on my head. Actually once it is on I almost don't notice it is there.

Great fit, comfy, secure and orange!

I have a an s-works evade and it does a good job of keeping my head cool. It’s more to do with the venting at the back than the size and quantity of intakes but it works. The MET looks like a similar design philosophy

Is it possible to try the Planet X helmet on somewhere? I struggle with a hot head when riding up the hills.

I've got a S/M one in the garage that didn't suit the wife's ponytail.

I'm in Devon, about 10 miles from Exeter.
