Anyone got any ideas on this...?

My XKR is occasionally making a slightly metallic squeak, but I cannot seem to replicate whatever it is that makes it do it.

It's not loud, but it -seems- as if it happens when turning the steering wheel or straightening up, however when it occasionally happens I then try to "re do" the same thing again, but without ever managing to produce the squeak.

I've tried full lock both ways, coasting, braking lightly, stopping going up a hill, stopping going down a hill, putting a wheel up on the curb, reversing, slightly touching the wheel when moving straight, but no, this bugger only pops up when it wants to! hehe

If it's definitely only when steering I'd start with the bits that rotate when you do it - top mounts and ball joints in the front suspension.

I'd replace the top mounts first and see whether that helps, as they should be reasonably sensible.

Replacing random bits for an occasional squeak seems likely to be overkill.

If my experience of this kind of thing is any indication, it'll turn out to be in your seat or something.

It’s a pity everything in life turned out to be as unreliable as a VW!

Quite frankly it could be anything. My first thought would have been seats!, then some contact through where the column goes. Not a stash of CDs in the glove box? First thing is definitely clear all the junk out first, before retrying.

I had this, turned out to be a lower ball joint. Very hard to replicate, had to put it on a ramp and use a crowbar to check play.

Can be nasty if left, can fail completely.

Definitely coming from outside or underneath, there's zero junk in the car!
