When it first came out the NHS track and trace app was used for signing into restaurants and to track if you’ve been near someone else who’s later had a positive test

The only reason I had it was for compliance in restaurants, in the last few weeks I’ve noticed places doing their own forms and now (I’m in wales) no where I’ve been this week even uses the app anymore, so no need to use it?

With the majority of people having a full course of the vaccine, even if you’ve come near to someone else that is later infected, with masks etc surely the risk is now so low that even knowing is completely pointless and still using the app is now simply causing thousands of people to be off work and locked inside (most likely unpaid) almost needlessly.

I wonder what the actual conversion rate of passing a infected person in the street, when vaccinated to then actually bring positive are.

The government clearly doesn’t care much now with all this bending of the rules, shop workers now don’t need to isolate if double jabbed so they clearly think the risk of passing on is so low that it’s not worth the risk to the supply chains

Which begs the question why bother at all?

I've never downloaded the app.

It never made sense to me to use Bluetooth technology to do so. It effectively meant that regardless of what mitigation you used, including complete air separation, you could still be pinged.

And I've no faith in rushed government ICT programmes.

I genuinley still dont understand why anyone would download it in the first place.

Even if you have, why have you still got it?

Unless you like lots of 10 day holidays from work of course.

Listening to it on the radio the last couple of days, lots of discussion, but not one single suggestion from either presenters or callers to do the obvious. Delete it. Or any mention that there is no actual legal requirement to isolate. Yet we plough on creating problems that dont need to exist.

The whole thing is utter madness. All it can possibly do is disrupt your life.

Yeah pretty much my thoughts. Never downloaded the app but the principle behind it is sound. Looking after each other etc……..

I just have no faith in the Govt any more.

We were on a job a couple of weeks ago where we lost a few of the crew due to being pinged.

Me at 59 and double jabbed and another colleague at 31 and not jabbed were saying

"Why the fek have you got that app, delete it!"

Also put Track and Trace on block.

It may have had it's day when people were stuck at home and had no idea what the virus could do but not now when we know it doesn't really affect young people and most have been vaccinated.

The bloody ping is a man-made digital virus which is starting to cause more problems than actually getting sick. You couldn't make it up.

I say this with a 21 year old daughter who had the sniffles, an 18 year old son who was quite serious after a week, couldn't get his breath and ended up briefly in hospital but is fine now and an immuno suppressed ex wife who had it rough for a week or so.

So I'm not saying the virus doesn't exist but we do have to accept it and stop hiding behind the sofa.

Has the app to check into pubs but always had track and trace turned off. Don't trust em.

I get full sick pay if I get pinged so I have spent the last year in a futile attempt to get made to self isolate, and failed entirely.

No one has scanned more QR codes than me!

yes

Complete madness & the messaging, language and so on are very much of a certain direction. The really odd bits are that it really does no favour to either, or indeed those that don't care.

The obvious bit is that we're not quite as removed from our past as we'd like to believe.

Met someone this week who said to me:

“I hope I don’t get pinged, I’m supposed to be going on holiday next week” (implying she was flying somewhere)

I didn’t even bother sticking around for the rest of the conversation with the idiot and left my Mrs to debate self manifested drama with her.

Seems to be a good way of tracking transmissions.

And looking at how many have been pinged, it seems to be doing that very well indeed.

Not really, but its a good way of tracking people that have been in the vicinity of somebody who subsequently tests positive for CV19.

It would be good to get data on those that have been pinged to isolate & how many subsequently develop CV19. I'd wager it is a very small percentage.

Would never load the app.

I have the app simply for when I am required to check in places though that seems to have dropped off anyway now.

I turned off contact tracing on it as soon as I downloaded it so the pinging has never affected me.

All in all, something doesn’t add in my mind with all these pings - I cant help feeling someone has figured out a way of acquiring lots of contacts (randomly by predicting other device codes) and then reporting symptoms or a positive test which then pings potentially thousands of people.

We could be being subjected to a massive denial of service attack by an adversary or just some kid having a massive laugh at the country’s human expense

Any coders about who can examine the published source code to see if there’s anyway of spoofing contacts or any checks at the backend to flag suspiciously high numbers of contacts for a given device?

I don't know if you've ever encountered it but people can actually go on holiday without flying...

I have never understood, outside of pressure by your employer, why anybody would willingly download this application. Historically, it's been proven to be "shaky" at the best of times. I have never failed to gain entry anywhere without the application, I simply fill in some form, change the last letter of my mobile number and go about my life.

As time goes on (and the weather gets better) I can appreciate the real reason people have it, however. wink

In theory, surely a system that gets people more likely to have Covid to isolate is better than one that makes all of us isolate?

I'm another who has never installed it, I've also noted on visits to many pubs and cafes that signing in is no longer used much. Had lunch in a pub with friends yesterday no pressure to do the app or sign in, a very pleasant experience. Manchester was very busy yesterday, with only the tram journey requiring a mask.
