I’ve been looking at the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m Tokyo 2020 watch & I really like it, I’m just curious if buying a special edition watch would be a good idea or not?

Just curious as although I’m not buying it to sell it, I may decide to further down the line & would like to know would a non special edition hold its value better than a special edition? The Tokyo watch is priced at £4820 & the other one I like is priced at £4450

It's a difficult one, the James Bond editions tend to do quite well at retaining value if not going up but they are a different market.
I doubt the Tokyo edition will drop anymore than a standard Seamaster, the thing about them I don't like is they print a an olympic logo over the rear display case which to me spoils it but personal preference.

Bare in mind that a discount is usually obtainable on the standard Seamasters if you ask nicely, for example I bought one in April with white face and black bezel and just asking nicely for a discount if I purchased there and then they dropped the price to £4000 at an AD, I suspect they may not discount the Olympic version currently which makes the price difference more substantial.

Thanks, I haven’t looked at the Olympic edition watch for any other reason than I like it, as you say, it’s a shame they’ve put the logo on the back, would have been much better without it.

I’d definitely choose a standard Seamaster if I could get a similar discount to what you achieved, a near £800 price difference would make it an easy decision. I’ve only bought one expensive watch before & paid full price online, I never realised discounts were available, I’m going to visit a couple of ADs & see how I get on.

Just for info I went to an Ernest Jones so typical high street jeweller and said something along the lines of " I know you do 0% finance but is there a discount for paying by debit card in full" the sales guy went off and spoke to a manager and came back and said £4000 if you buy today so I took the deal.

I'm not a big negotiator at all but it was a simple ask and worked for me.

Good luck whichever way you decide to go with it.
