I'm looking for manual/automatic watches which don't cost the earth (less than £10k - lower the better) but have a reasonable amount of hand finishing.

I'm looking for my next watch, and while there are a loads of great watches out there, I feel that many are machine mass produced with some hand assembly. While I don't mind this, I think I'm looking for something that's had more human input to create, something you can look at and appreciate the time that someone has spent on the detail. I know budget will play a massive part in what level of human involvement you'd get, hence this post, to find out what's out there.

The first watches that spring to mind are those from Grand Seiko, I know they do some excellent watches with hand finished dials and some hand finishing on the movements. Are there any more?

Are H Moser & Cie hand-finished? Watch finder currently have three that all happen to tie in with your budget nicely.

Check out A Lange & Sohne...should be able to pick up pre-owned 1815 or saxiona for the upper end of your budget. The quality of finishing on them is superior to watches multiple times their value - IMHO.

Another vote for Blancpain

or Grand Seiko; that zaratsu polishing is hand done

Hmmm….I have a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Chono Limited Edition (1 of 250) and the finishing is fine but definitely not in the same league as a VC, Lange etc.

Some of the dress watches might be better but Grand Seiko has to be a good shout.
