Just flew over, and it went over last week too. Is there any way to work out when/if it'll go over again so I can be out where the view is better rather than hearing it come and rushing outside to catch a glimpse?

You could ask a friend to book one of the flights and get them to tell you when they are taking off? I see one a lot flying from Headcorn and briefly looked at doing it, but the cost of £2,750 put me off.

No, in a word.

Its likely one of the 2-seaters on one of the passenger flights operated out of Goodwood would be my guess, as not many of the other pass flights operating from the other airfields (Sywell, Duxford and Biggin Hill) venture further west than Beachy Head/Seaford on their routes.

Ok, thanks, didn't think there was much hope. smile Unfortunately I don't know any Spitfire obsessives with £3k burning a hole in their pocket.

The flights from Goodwood (or Solent) are pretty much scheduled so go to the website & see what & when is bookable - that should give you an indication https://www.boultbeeflightacademy.co.uk/spitfire-f...

The ones from Goodwood fly most days during the Summer I think. It actually got to the point where we didn’t even look out of the window from our office in Portsmouth any more when we heard it because it was literally every day.

I think Boultbee as was (they have changed their name) operate their Spitfires more now from Lee-On-Solent rather than Goodwood, plus they also operate flghts from Exeter as well for a few weeks every year in the summer.

Summer they are flown from Goodwood ( except for the festival dates) and winter they are from Daedalus ( hard runway, obvs reasons) my FIL has just been up for his flight a couple of months ago which we bought almost 2 years ago!

The Spitfires at Goodwood have been really busy since June and it’s always a shame that they move back to Lee on Solent in September.

They certainly make the school run more enjoyable.

Lovely sound as the throttle is juggled.

As the OP indicates, seeing a Spitfire used to be a rare treat.

Now that they fly overhead many times every day (from Biggin Hill), sometimes two together, a sighting no longer seems special any more.

I think I may had a similar sighting. Rented a RIB with a mate last Friday and went across the Solent and a Spitfire banked over Cowes just as we were pulling in about 5.30pm. Still evocative if you haven't seen one for a while.

Laps of the Isle of Wight are part of the norm for the Boultbee Academy flights from Goodwood and Daedalus.
