Do you bother with reading long threads?

So there are quite a few long threads that I find interesting, but struggle to read the whole thing, so I end up skipping through, then last few comments, then maybe post.
Does anyone have any tips for joining a thread late in the day and not making yourself sound like a complete arse.

The main tip I could give you for joining a long thread and not look like a dick when you comment on it is to read the thread so you know what's been said and what hasn't otherwise it just looks like you're trying to get your thread count up and are one of those many people on here who post an answer on here as fact when it's nothing of the sort.

Threads are like lawns, you have to be there at the start and do a bit every day or week. If you don't it doesn't work, neglect it and it gets out of control.
Or what you are maybe saying is that you have a concentration problem, so you need to address that really. It's very common these days.

Occasionally, such as the 'Classics left to die' and 'Lawn' threads.
What annoys me is finding an interesting but long thread, and having to skip two pages of tards trying to cram puns in. The first one or two puns can be mildly funny and apt, but usually there is twenty more try-hard posts from throbbers after.
