Hi All

So found this hanging out the bottom of my drivers side mirror in the gap where the mirror swivels ?

I have a 99 plate 400

So is this broken off or hopefully he said ... just needs refitting?

If so advice on the process of getting the mirror glass out without breaking etc plus fitting would be appreciated

Chris

I can’t see from the photo if it has broken so look for shiny metal at either end. Normally it just pushes into place and holds the mirror assembly into one of three positions on the tripod.
To remove the glass, raise glass to highest point with the motor then push a thin flat blade into the gap at the bottom between mirror casing and glass and slide blade to the left. The heater wires will stop it falling onto the ground.(assuming someone has bothered to connect them in the past).
Good luck.

Yep think that is broken. Its the spring which gives the three notchy horizontal positions of the mirror.

If you try rotating the mirror it will be free running but probably stiff. Passenger side will have 3 distinct positions.

It has broken off, it should be riveted to the main cast metal frame.

Shouldn't be a big job to drill a hole and attach with a pop rivet or small screw and nut?

No such luck, I wouldn't attempt it in situ, if you break the pedestal you are in a heap of trouble, there aren't any to be had.

Nice one Mike......I knew you'd have one, think I saw it when Bob dropped off the mirror collars on sunday.

I didn't get to touch it as I didn't have any white gloves but it looked amazing

Chris...if you need to discuss "all things mirrors" give me a call

That removal method works for the original mirror glass backing plate. Mine were like that originally. The newer replacement ones have the plastic mouding for the back of the glass as a push fit onto the motor assembly, so the thing just pings off if you can get your fingers (or a pry tool) behind the glass.

So, if you can see a lever sticking up behind the glass, slide it, if it hasn't got a lever give it a tug smile

Edited to add I had to replace mine as the original lever type mirror backing plates had come unstuck from the glass, and had broken into several bits. The replacements I sourced from TVR Parts (as was) came like I described.

Just a quick bump for the thread. This month's copy of Sprint has just hit my doormat. Apparently Racing Green are having the tripod castings re-manufactured. Limited numbers IIRC.

Form an orderly queue....
