Recommendations for a book on contemporary Porsches
Discussion
Hi all,
I am planning to buy a Porsche around 18-24months from now - spending between £20-30k
Apart from a Honda S2000 that I owned for 2 years, the rest of my cars have been standard family cars - the most interesting being a Mazda Xedos 6.
I sold the S2000 because I just did not get to use it much living in East London.
I intend to move out to London in the next 2 years to somewhere more rural with more twisty roads nearby!
However, for the past 20 years, I have promised myself I would buy a Porsche once I hit my mid-50s and have been saving towards it. I never really got into understanding the range and details of the various Porsche models over the years as I did not wish to torture myself.
In the meantime, I would like to get to know the Porsche models from yr 2000 onwards better and before I start reading about them on the web - where much of the discussion and chat expects some existing knowledge of Porsches, I figured I should start with reading a book on Porsches which gives me a basic grounding in the world of Porsches.
Can someone please recommend a book or two which I may find useful?
Thanks!

Check out the recent thread about buying a £15k Porsche and IMS issues with 996s. I suspect that £20k+ in 18 months will buy you what's £15k-20k now.
My personal recommendation - can you spend £30k now? You might be able to pick up a 996 Turbo with no risk of IMS for £30k after a bit of negotiation. It's what I did.

Thanks - but no realistic chance of buying one now.
Stil saving and I would like the cushion of some extra dosh in the bank as a result of selling our East London property and something cheaper outside - to pay for major repairs etc...
And having owned and failed to use the S2000 in and around East London - don't want to have a barely used £20-30k Porsche parked outside.
Will read your post though.

If you're looking at buying at the bottom end of the 996 market, I'd either get something that's had the IMS upgrade, or factor in £3k to deal with the IMS and RMS. You can do an IMS oil test (to look for metal fragments). If it comes back negative, you've saved yourself £2k on upgrading the IMS.
