328 GTS - It Came - I Saw - I Came.
Discussion
HAd a pretty crap drive into work the other morning then 2 mins from work after drving for 4.5 hrs an absolutely pristine 328 GTS pulled out of a side road infront of me.
Just wanted to say really, these cars do look good in photos, however they look REALLY good in the flesh, but still, they look F:censored:g AMAZING gliding down the road.
I'd forgotten just how beautiful they are with a real gracious flow about them. I think it was because I saw it from the perspective of my car that I could
put the size and proportions into better perpective - looked almost like a different car, utterly amazing.
Just wanted to share...
Of course the first thing I did when I got into work was Autotrader---Search--Ferrari---328 GTS....
;)

I posted a reply this moring and it seems to have dissapeared off into the ether somewhere....
I was asking if anyone has any 308/328 only links to look at in the privacy of my own bedroom...??
I like the 355 - I've often looked at them with a certain amount of affection, but the 328, to me, does seem to be the best of both worlds. There seems to be a divide from "old" ferrari and "new" ferrari. The 348/TR/255/360 etc are all firmly planted in my mind in the "new" house, whereas the 328 seemed to be right on the porche (watching spelling!
of both houses.
I realise it seems trivial but I really did have a 'momment' in the nicest possible way when I saw it on the road.
Cheers,
JC

This is very much my own view - I hasten to add. The 308/328 is a direct descendent of that jewel of a car, the Dino...the styling cues are there for all to see and I challenge anyone not to look in the wing mirror of these cars and fall in love with the curves that they see there...
The 348 ushered in the "Fiat" era and this encompasses the 348, TR and Mondial. The 355 is of course an evolution of the 348, but sees a return to the 308 era - the round rear lights, toggle switches....
I like the 355 a lot. It fuses the wider body of the 348 with the styling of the 308 just perfectly and it would appear that I'm not alone.

246, 308, 328, 355. Cant really go wrong with any of them really, they're all fabulous cars and (IMO) all drop dead pretty (though I think they spoiled the 328 a tad with some of the 80's stuff, but hey, that's why I own an early carb 308
)
I considered swapping the 308 for a 355 a couple of years back. Decided against it because
a) 355s are still on a depreciation curve (I'm a yorkshireman, alright !?!?
b) servicing would cost me 3x more and insurance would cost me 5x more. I thought about it long and hard and came to the conclusion that I wouldnt get 5x more fun out of a 355 than a 308
If you want 308 only stuff, check out my (home brewed, so not sophisticated) site www.fugazi.co.uk

I think a lot of it is to do with which Ferrari you grew up with, I had a massive GTO poster on my wall as a nipper which will always be etched on my mind. The 328 was a similar shape, with some of the shaper edges of the 308 smoothed out. The interior of the 328 is fantastic as well, and I've always felt that maybe the 355 was a little 'Japanesey'. I'd give my eye teeth for a blat in one though, don't get me wrong.
I had a 328 for over a year, goodlooking car. I had both the 355 spider and the 328 at the same time, and chose to use the 328 over the 355 on some days becourse its a real ferrari classic. I love the side profile of the 328 and the curves. I just wish the rear of the 328 was a little wider, even though i used 265s on 18s the body was very narrow. Miss that dog leg change, i remember a few times i would put it into reverse and lurch backwards at the lights, until i got used to it. Great car with a great sense of occasion.
I'ts odd really as when I was growing up I had the Testarossa/Countach/Esprit on my wall....
Thats the thing though, I always liked the 328, and that was where it ended really, however just seeing it on the road, in perspective against everything else it just looked amazing. Very surreal momment.
It was like placing Miss Monroe on the set of wife swap - yes she's a woman like all the rest, but thats where the similarity ends. Thusly the 328 had 4 wheels and a body but stood out like a beacon.
I'm converted. It's now on my list of "must haves" at some point.
Any futher links appreciated. Nevpugh308, loved browsing through yours, but we need more high quality pics please!
Thanks

I agree with you on the 328 comments.
I'm seriously tempted by one of these at the moment, they seem to have been £30 - £35,000 for the last decade and when you live in central london and garaging is tight , that 5ft 6in width makes alot of sense!
I like the looks of the GTB but the GTS would be more fun -
How many of these have the colour coded roof?
Is there a dealer you'd recommend on these cars?
Pre ABS / ABS cars?
How do they take the mileage?
Known probs?
Any ideas welcome, I think I'm going to take the plunga and make an addition to the fleet.

I was told by my specialist, who is a concours judge, that all 328's left the factory with the black roof, so any colour coding is after market.
There are a few good places to buy from - Nick Cartwright, Karl Verdi and KHPC are all highly spoken of. I was advised to buy 1986 or later with ABS, so I opted for an 88 car and have had no problems. I was told by 2 or 3 independents that they are "bullet proof". They can be thrashed year round and are built to take it. They only go in once a year for the annual service and that's it. They can also take the milage, I have seem them with 65,000+.
Running costs are also good. £400 for cambelts every 2 years, and about the same amount for an annual service. Insurance, 3,000 miles p.a. is £380.
Cheers...
the only good thing about the 328 according to my Mum is that it encourages me to visit more often
It is amazing how much attention they still get, going to le mans i thought we would be invisible cos of all the other newer and more expensive exotics but there was always people stopping/pointing/staring and snapping away.
lambojim, the GTB is stiffer, doesn't leak and is rarer. But in France way too hot (cabin temps over 50c w/ac on full!!)
Pre abs cars have nicer 'concave' wheels, not sure if they are swappable it may be due to bulk of the abs system
can average 28mpg on good runs but doubt you will manage in London.
Still feels quick and sounds oh so good.
