Morning all,

Totally out my depth here so after some advice.

Purchased a new NVR last week but the current fans are very noisy, the distributer has recommended that the fans could be changed to Noctua fans which are less noisy......

Could anyone recommend replacements for the two fans in the images below, both measure 40mm x 40mm and are DC 12v. They both have 2 pin connectors that were plugged into the PCB but are different in size.

I would really appreciate anyone who knows about these things helping me out!

Cheers,
Chris

I suggest you talk to the team at https://www.quietpc.com/ and see what they suggest.

Not a huge help but.

1. fans are directional - so did you notice which way round each was in the case? they tend to work pull-push (one in one out).
2. dunno about why the plugs would be different unless one is male and one is female. Cant really tell from the pics. Have you tried to see if they are just different shaped same plugs, i.e. are they interchangeable and connect to either socket?

3. just seach for the fan name Noctua and size - try to marry up the plugs. Like I said it maybe one is male one is female.

The female terminals can be removed from those plugs and the new fans terminals will very likely fit the original plugs

You're going to struggle. To shift any volume of air, 40mm fans have to spin really fast which equals much noise. Noctua are absolutely the gold standard for quiet fans but even they are subject to the laws of physics. You may get a slight reduction in noise but I suspect you will be disappointed in the eventual result.

The only way you're going to really reduce fan noise is to replace those with 120 or even 140mm fans, which obviously aren't going to fit in the same place. You may be able to mod the case (code for "cut a bloody great big hole in the top") but depending on how tight the case is that may well not be possible.

When looking for replacement fans you want the third measurement, depth. They are described by their size. I. E. 40x40x10 . Going thicker with a low noise fan can compensate for loss of air flow. Also, if the fan is up against a heat sink, or component, then you need to consider the fans static pressure.

Hi all, massive thanks to you. I ordered two fans earlier from quitepc.com, spoke to them on the phone and excellent customer service, parts arriving tomorrow!
