As I was saying before we were so rudely interrupted...

I hope this is the right place. It would be good to get some indication from PH as to why the last thread, and the two before it, were removed so we can avoid such matters again.

Anyway.

We were talking about the tendency of people with small post counts to only post about K7, which I think nonplussed a few regulars, and I can understand that - while I don't post *only* on K7, I do post *mainly* on K7, so I'll do my best to contribute a bit more widely. To be honest, I am a petrolhead at heart, I used to work in motorsport, and my family has been involved in manufacturing, selling, engineering and restoring road and racing cars, so there's plenty of interest here to me. To be honest, I find PH a bit of a maze and it can be hard to know where to start.

However.

The K7 situation is worth talking about here, I think, and as I said on the deleted thread, this is one of the few places to discuss it that aren't controlled or dominated by BBP.

It's a shame that BBP does dominate talk of the boat as there's an awful lot more to it than them. The Ruskin museum's Campbell display is fantastic, well worth a look for anyone heading to the Lakes, even in the absence, so far, of most of the boat itself. What struck me the last time I was there was the sheer number of items donated and loaned by people who clearly still idolise DMC after all this time and are captivated by his record breaking efforts. There are several large scale models of K7 that have evidently been built with much love and attention.

And then there was the model regatta the Ruskin organised on Coniston Water last weekend, featuring models of Bluebird/Blue Birds K7, K4 and K3 as well as other record breakers like Miss Windermere IV and Crusader. (There's one for the petrolhead crowd - Miss Windermere IV was a 3-point hydroplane powered by a Jaguar C/D-Type engine, which must have sounded glorious.)

It's a shame that BBP could not resist the temptation to have a go at the museum over this event because it was organised at short notice because of Covid and therefore there wasn't time to get the bylaw suspended with the 10mph speed limit. This meant the bigger models had to be a bit careful about how fast they went, though the smaller ones could go full chat with no problems. And a 1:4.3 turbine powered model of K7 was worth the visit just for the sound.

Anyway, let's see how long this lasts

Because it breached posting rules. I'm amazed it lasted so long.

Oh dear, I assume a stalinist attempt at rewriting history has caused the last (and previous) thread to be closed. I suppose it's much easier to control the narrative when dissenting voices are censored - that gives a great clue to the personalities involved.

To the Mods : Can you provide some guidance as to what is allowable here, i.e. what got the last thread banned (I can guess, but it would be good to hear that first hand).

The original thread may now be gone but whist there it was a very useful narrative for those of us with an interest in K7 and it’s history but prefer to read rather than post.

So thank you for those that took the time to contribute to that thread and make more of us aware about what’s currently going on.

Thanks. They seem debateable to me but it's good to know where the line sits, roughly.

Back to K7...

There are many posts on the thread that breach rule no.5:

Do not name and shame any company or individual, or post content which could cause reputational damage or which could be deemed as libellous or defamatory. To do so puts you at risk of legal action and we may be obliged by law to disclose your personal data.

I haven't deleted the thread just yet and will see if it's feasible to delete posts that break our rules, but ultimately I think this needs to be left alone and not posted about on PistonHeads. I'll update here when I've had time to review.
