I have a 26,000 mile old 997.2 Cayman.

When i go to check my oil level in the usual way via the column lever, the 'Oil' option is missing. All that comes up on the dash dispaly ios the normal 'set' menu options. I have no warning lights, the car runs perfectly, it's just I can't check my oil level. Tried all the usual scrolling etc, but just have the "set' options available.

dscoured the internet but can't find anything similar reported - nearest being a message from latewr cars sayin 'info not available at this time. I have no messages showing relating to oil.

I'm 200 miles from home for the next few days on hols, so no access to tools or diagnostic kit.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Missing menus is usually because it needs to be recoded, although I've never seen the 'oil' menu go missing before.
Has the battery gone flat recently? This can make the dashboard 'forget' its programming. The cure is to get it reprogrammed by someone with the correct diagnostic capabilities.

No, the car has been working perfectly, no battery issues at all tbh.

I guess you are suggesting a durametric session would be required or is it a trip to an OPC that’s required?

Thanks

I had a 987.1 the oil level could be checked cold if I remember. The 981 cayman I believe the oil needs to be up to temp to check the level.

As the 987.2 is between when did the switch take place to checking the oil level warm. If that’s the case is the oil warm when your checking the level. Maybe the menu isnt present until the oil is up to temperature.

Just a bit of a guess. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.

There is no option to check the oil at all. Usually if I want to check the oil before it’s warmed, a message pops up to say oil not warm.

With the engine off and without your foot on the clutch (or brake if PDK), turning the key all the way round should trigger an oil level read. That’s the case for 997/987.1. Been a few years since I had my 987.2 but I’m sure it was the same.

I’m on hold at the mo but got Amazon to send me a 10mm spanner. Disconnected the battery for 10 mins, reconnected and all back to normal.

Phew, love a cheap fix!

Thanks to all who replied.

Good that it was a simple fix, bit of an odd one!

I checked with my 997.1 yesterday and it’s just a case of turning to ignition position 2 which triggers an oil read.
