Recommend me a small gas bbq
Discussion
The wife is veggie so we dont cook meat in the house.
More frequently I'm cooking meat outside for me and the two boys on a large weber charcoal bbq. Life would be a lot simpler if i didn't have to wait for the coals to heat up so i'm considering a small gas bbq ("Daaad...is my sausage ready", "no, i've just lit the coals/chimney" etc).
It'll be mainly used to cook 2 or 3 burger/steaks or 1/2 dozen sausages or a couple of bits of chicken so I don't need a big american sized monster grill.
Any recommendations (apart from get a different wife)?

The problem with gas* is the cleaning IME. The fat doesn't burn off so you have congealed grease to clear up and the grill needs a proper clean.
*Apart from the obvious...
ETA I'd be more tempted to get a gas burner and a griddle pan. At least then you could use a pot for stews etc.

I’d recommend the Weber q as well, with the cast iron cooking surface.
A bit of cleaning is beneficial but with the lid down mine would heat up way over 250c, closer to 300c which would burn off a lot of residue when scraped with the triangular wire brush.
Keeping it under cover when not in use will make it last longer… and is an excuse for an outdoor kitchen area as well …

Another vote for the Weber Q series. We have a Q1200, mainly used for the 2 of us but copes well enough if we have a couple of friends or family round. It must be 5 or 6 years old now, kept outside (under a cover) over summer and stored in the garage over winter, but still in pretty good condition.
Thanks all. I've been looking at the Webers online...so good to here some good reviews.
It would be kept undercover so thats not an issue. I don't mind a bit of cleaning. Sounds like it's a case of emptying the drip tray every few uses and scrubbing round the burner compartment a bit less regularly...doesn't sound/look too onerous.
The Q1200 sounds like the one. If it's small i'm more likely to take it on future camping trips i guess. But is it too small to feed me and two small but growing lads? Would the 2200 be better for future proofing and being able to handle having guests over etc?

I would say don't get a Q, but if budget allows get a proper 4 burner.
You may well find that with gas being more convenient you use if more than you expect to.
Perhaps your wife will be happy if veg Is cooked on other side to meat too?
Doubtful the wife will eat veggies off the meat bbq. I had to buy another fridge to store the meat in You may well find that with gas being more convenient you use if more than you expect to.

I'm also keen to not get something too big. The vast majority of times i'd just be cooking for myself an our two boys.

We took our Q1200 on a camping trip a couple of years ago, fitted in the boot of our Focus with a tent and bit of luggage. Fed 4 adults and 1 teenager.
