As it states in the title really. Anyone know, or use a decent debt recovery company in the South Wales area, specifically Newport / Cardiff area?

Amounts are around £1k before any fees, and I have several to collect.

Cheers

Is that a debt recovery company? Where are they based?

I will PM who I use. Very good and professional outfit. Not SW although not relevant imho as they will use escalating legal means so letters etc before setting the bailiffs on them.

TX.

Just to say the debts are not Landlord debts. I lease cars (sheds), and these are related to those.

Have you got CCJs against them?

If not then, as far as I'm aware, all they can do is send a series of letters and make phone calls.

One of the significant debts (>£5k) is to a business. I don't see too many legal complications in this.
One of the debts is for less than £600, so I think we will need to claim this through the small claims court.
One of the debts is for around £1000, so it would be possible (I think) to use a high court enforcement to pursue this. I believe the HC is a faster and more expensive alternative to the small claims court - I'm not 100% clear on this so if anyone knows more than I do, feel free to educate me.

As said, 'debt collection agencies' are pretty toothless unless you have a CCJ. Only then does the law step in.

So for each debt, first you need to use the Small Claims procedure, which covers debts up to £10,000. If they defend the case you'll go to court and tell it all to the judge who will decide who's right. If you win they get a CCJ. However that's only a bit of paper; the fun starts when you have to enforce it. Maybe they will pay up just before court, or just after to clear the CCJ, but maybe they will say 'fk off'. If that happens, County Court remedies are fairly useless against an experienced debtor so you'll need to escalate the case to the High Court, which is what you see on telly and is very effective.

So basically, if you want to get paid and the debtors are tricksy, you have a lot of work to do.

Have the debtors indicated that they’re not willing to pay or are they ignoring you or making excuses? Have you actually turned up yet?

Thanks for the advice.

I think the best course of action may be to issue small claims court proceedings against both individuals, and go from there. Current time from completion of the paperwork to trial is 49 weeks. Grrrrrr.
