Entirely believable for the tech bro club.

I suspect this is tame stuff compared to what some of the others get up to.

The tech industry is a cesspool tbh.

It hardly seems a week goes by without an international tech company being involved in some sort of abuse/harrassment scandal.

That story is crazy, you wouldn't take it seriously if it were in a film etc.

What did they think they'd achieve?

Suppressing bad news and so keeping key sellers on board, and going on to dominate Internet auction sales. And hoping it wouldn't come until years later when they had achieved it.

Job done!

Facebook Marketplace has overtaken ebay for small time sellers and Amazon has for larger ones so it was likely desperation on ebays part which led to this.

At least in the US company misdemeanours are taken seriously, when you look at the Horizon fiasco here in the UK it's clear that multiple people should be in jail yet no one is has been held responsible.

Why victim blame?

Ebay were terrible, and it was obviously known about at a high level for a good while. They lost vision when trying to become amazon two, rather than just accepting that they were very good at used goods and continuing to make good profits from that.

He's not blaming the victims, he's saying Ebay were complete idiots doing what they did, which I can't say I disagree with.

Yeah, exactly.

Stalking/ harrasing your enemy personally, with vehicles hired under your own name is what youd expect from a local shop or business/ hillbilly etc.

NOT the top Execs at a company like Ebay!!

Both the stalking and the execution of it were bottom drawer

Apologies, I misread what you'd written.

Ebay were as dumb with this as they have been with their strategy for the last 15 years.

Ah I read about this a few weeks ago, incredible stuff, the upper management have very thin skins to do that kind of stuff, and very little intelligence to actually do it competently. It sounds like the CEO said "I want this newsletter dealt with..." and the head of security went on a power craze. It reminded me of Musk, sending a private investigator to dig dirt on Unsworth. Also if you've seen the "Silicon Valley" series, it's right out of Gavin Belson's playbook!

I imagine they will negotiate a huge settlement out of court, several million $ I'm sure!
