For reasons I can’t be bothered to explain I had to give a severe heroin addict a lift to A&E last friday. He is now ok.

The chap in question, putting it politely, fking stank.

It’s now nearly a week on and I can’t get the smell out of the car. Today I opened every door and the boot and left for a good couple of hours.

It still fking stinks. It’s a cross between death and an old book. I have some autogylm odour stuff, but it’s basically expensive febreeze.

Will book it to get valeted but any ideas?! I’m baffled.

Was there any "spillage" in transport?

I've had a car be a bit musky after camping in it on a roasting night, but nothing that didn't clear out with a bit of airing.

Wet vacing with a proper detergent, spray down with interior cleaner on the other surfaces and perhaps an aircon bomb as a cherry on top and you should be sorted.

Some people swear by a bowl of white vinegar left in the car for say a day. It absorbs the odours; I haven’t tried it myself but I’m told it works.

If that doesn’t work you, or maybe as well, clean the parts he touched ie shampoo or leather cleaner for the seat, arm rest etc.

If after all that it smells, get one of those Meguiar's G16402 Whole Car Air Re-Fresher Odor Eliminator Mist New Car Scent Air Bomb.

My home 'office' chair had some coffee spilt on it which I tried to wash out with hot soapy water - obviously that ended up with a stinky damp smell and a tide mark. Add 6 months of my sweaty arse and it was pretty rank.

30 seconds with a Vax wet hoover and their magic fluid and it is genuinely like new, even the coffee stain came out.

It sure I want to think about it, going to go for a couple of hours drive with all windows open and heating on.

With trade experience, I would suggest general cleaning with any decent product, Demon something or other is good. After that there is no substitute for all doors, boot open at every possibility. We were never defeated, apart from odour du wet dog. We had a Honda HRV for a year, it was a first class example, ticked all the boxes... but that pong! Human odour presumably less concentrated!

Due to my line of work, I know the smell you mean.
I’d factor in being slightly concerned about any hygiene issues he may have left on the fabric of your car.

As a minimum I’d have the car professionally valeted including a wet vac.
If you want gold standard and have deep pockets, the police use these people to clean cars which have been ‘contaminated’ hurlhttps://www.reactsc.co.uk/

+1 for a wet vac and a good old wipe over with all purpose cleaner.

Leave windows open for as long as possible.

The car I now use daily had been smoked in and a couple of weeks of windows open all day has fixed that.

I know it’s good to close the thread loop. So quick update couldnt get booked in for a full valet until next week.

Sprayed loads of autogylm odour eliminated and went for a 3 hour drive all windows down. Next morning as expected it just smelt very strongly of autogylms version of febreeze but with the nasty smell still lingering.

Off the advice here I bought an autogylm anti bac fog bomb. Left it overnight and the smell has not only gone but it even took away the febreeze smell too. No idea what’s in it, but there was absolutely no smell of anything at all in the morning. Quite odd actually!

A few days in and still no smell back.

Thanks everyone
