Hope someone can help..
My private plate is on retention and I have the certificate. I have a keen buyer but he des'nt yet have the car manufactured. How do I transfer it to him? The DVLA are impossible to contact at the moment. The form requires the current reg of his vehicle....but this is impossible as it is not built yet... It does have a Nominee section but that makes no sense to me...

Cheers
Rob

The Nominee section is the right one here. You put all of his details in (not sure if you can do it online, or you need to post it) and DVLA will send him the Retention Certificate.

It will show your details still, but will be printed with him as the Nominee and he can use that to register the car.

I did this a few months ago on a new car, so it’s all good.

Or I believe you can just post him the retention certificate and all he needs do is quote the reference number on it. That is why you will always see that number blanked out whenever a retention certificate is used to advertise a number for sale.

The buyer just needs the retention certificate, can even be assigned without his name as nominee if done online, however as a buyer, I would always put straight onto a vehicle, even to retain straight away, that way there are no complications down the line, but in your situation, its god to go.

I didn't think that worked on a brand-new car - the Retention Certificate needs to have the new owner as the Grantee or the Nominee in order for the dealer to process the new vehicle registration.
