Hello all.

Can I ask for your recommendations for tyres for fast road use with occasional track days please?

Thanks in advance

It depends what size tyres you are have. If they are the original sizes, then there is not much choice, and most are mainly budget tyres now. If you have changed the size, and you can get Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in the size you need, then they are the best.

I’m looking for 245 or 255/40R17

Thanks

Pilot Sport 4 as suggested is available in those sizes.

PS4 will work for light track duties too, and a brilliant road tyre.

I have these on my porkchop, Brilliant tyres.

I would never replace just the rears. Put a full set on and feel confident!

Note that PS4 and PS4S are not the same tyres!

There are some interesting comparisons on Youtube.

Having said that - both are excellent tyres. Not cheap but IMO you get what you pay for.

Hello Peter.

So the 5.5 has made way for a boxter. Didn't see that one coming laugh. My rear tyres wear much faster that the fronts, it would be such a waste to replace all of them at once.

Hi Andrew. The chimaera went as I needed an easier option at the time . that said, I really enjoy the Boxster.

Enough of that, can you not get the same tires as the front and keep her matched set? You may have said that they weren’t available and I’m too lazy to go back in the thread!

How’s the car going? Did you get everything you wanted finished in the end?

They don’t make T1Rs any more or not in this size that I can find but I wanted to stay with Toyo to match the fronts hence buying the Sports.
The engine mods are pretty much done but still got an annoying tapping/knocking noise at tick over. Had a roller cam fitted by V8D a while back which is when it started but just can’t identify where this noise is coming from. Last attempt I had the cam and followers out and checked them over but couldn’t find anything wrong. I then meticulously set the preload on all the followers (hydraulic) but that didn’t cure it. So, bit of a head scratcher confused. Apart from that it is epic.

PS4S not available in 17 so you're looking at PS4 only. This review from our own PHer seems to rate the Goodyear and Continental offering as all about equal depending on your priorities. 255 40 17 is also on my 996 and not that common so worth checking what's available.

I have PS4 on the 370Z and I've been really happy with them. I also personally prefer the PS4 to the Pilot Super Sport that I have on the M4 as well. I think when the time comes I'd swap the PSS on the M4 to PS4S too.
