Just wondered if anyone has gone from a 997 Gt3 to a 981 GT4 or visa versa . My friend collects his new to him 2015 981 GT4 next weekend and it will be good to compare against my Gt3. I suspect it will drive lovely and make mine feel rather dated.

I'd imagine... the stand out difference will be the engine - 3.6 Mezger revving out to way over 8K vs the 3.8 in the 981 which produces it power much early and redline much earlier in standard form.

It will then be down to the chassis set up of each car...

Should be an interesting comparison.... look forward to reading your thoughts.

Yep will be interested in your view. I was considering both when I made my purchase but ruled out the cayman due to wanting something to feel as special as possible. I have zero regrets in that department, but if some day down the line I get bored I’m sure the thought process will be there again, though probably for the 718 variety.

I’m sure there is no wrong answer anyways

Owned a few 997’s. know them very well. I drove a friends 981 GT 4 when they were pretty new. It’s everything you expect of a modern gt car, a step on from 997 in all those more modern car ways, lovely interior, beautifully balanced. Wonderful brakes. Great looking too.

For me the drive train was “road car” , light clutch and shift action, very easy to live with vs the GT3. Wasn’t doing it for me though as an experience. The engine was a disappointment as it just runs out of puff just where the Mezger gets going. No joy there either personally.

On a track the GT3 will gap it if there’s enough room, Spa for eg. its faster in the twisties though I think it’s probably a faster car on medium/ shorter circuits. Depends who’s driving it obviously!

Same thoughts here as above.

GT4, great car! Great on road and track….

But no motorsport engine so feels more “normal”.
Excellent car but I couldn’t choose one over any model GT3.

Driven both but own a 997 GTS. Found the GT4 981 engine the most underwhelming aspect of an amazing car otherwise, even in comparison with my GTS. That was a showstopper for me as I was seriously considering a swap.

GT3 lump a step up again from the GTS in terms top end thrills.
