Not sure if this has been done before, but from what I can tell, these two seem to be THE induction kits to use on the Elise. Given that this will probably be on my xmas wishlist, I'm wondering which one is the one to go for. The ITG one is more expensive, although when you spec the Hurricane up to Silicone hose and Carbonfibre cowl it's not a world of difference. Is there a performance advantage to go with the price premium? Which sounds better?

I'm guessing that this will be a largely subjective thing. I just want to have a nice free-flowing system to take advantage of further modifications down the track and also the system that will let my baby's voice be heard loud and clear when compared to the factory airbox.

Any takers?

At the same price it would be the ITG every time for me. A well made kit by folks who make Air filters for F1 cars so they know their stuff. Also sounds better than the Hurricane IMHO, not so much like a duck being strangled. The Foam filter is also easier to clean.

Down sides, cost its not the same price its more expensive and more awkward to install.

For simple performance you would be better just replacing the paper filter with a high flow one as neither of these filters are going to give you a huge boost in performance.

I have a question I have a Carbon Dynamic Airbox with a BMC air filter. Would a ITG or Hurricane be better? I find this all a tad confusing.

no performance difference - if you like the carbon look then go with either...if you want the coloured ally Hurricane then you can save a few quid.

As Rich says above...when a £20 K&N panel filter flows enough air for 200bhp+ its does make you wonder where the logice is in these things...you get a few bhp (nothing like the claims) with either and a great sound.

The BMC one is ok ...does the job.

Is there difference in the maintenance of the filter itself between the ITG and Hurricane?
Is there a risk for particules in the system and then damaging the motor with another filter giving more hp?

I tend to agree.... both will give a marginal increase in bhp (2-3 probably) and any difference in between would likely be in the tenths of horsepower, which isn't really worth all that. I've heard that the Hurricane one sounds brilliant, and the ITG one much the same.... way I see it, other than the flashiness of having all that carbon in the engine bay, there doesn't seem to be much of a case for going for the ITG over the hurricane... can't get much more simple than a hurricane anyway, simple cowl system, minimalist, lightewight... kinda in-keeping with the Elise philosophy

not really - as long as you clean them at each service and re-oil them properly

Hurricane - go for it, you'll have no regrets (and £150 in your sky-rocket to spend on other stuff... gear linkage for instance )

I'm very happy with the Hurrucane, looks neat, is lightweight and sounds good too. I'm a Scot so the £150 helped in the decision process!

Just as a follow-up to this... I've got my Hurricane on order..... have noticed that my throttle is sticking a little and not QUITE returning to idle sometimes so I'm guessing my throttle body is getting a little tired too... I cleaned it out and it seems to be nice and free but noticed that there's a little bit of slop in there and it's surely not long until it gives problems again so I've sprung for an S160 throttle body too., should tandem up to a nice little mod. I'm still running the standard S1 exhaust so I'm not expecting it to sound THAT much better, but maybe just a bit more satisfying on full throttle I'm trying to sell my spare TVR engine at the moment and if I find a buyer I might get an early christmas pressie of a full larini system and de-cat (cat converters are not tested over here so can remove it safely) as well as the Eliseparts short shifter and linkage kit as well as a new clutch hose to replace what I can see as the only remaining shortfall of the Elise.... I'll be all ready for a NZ summer then! I should have somewhere in the region of 125+bhp then (assuming I've got 118 now) and a lovely sound to go with it..... ROLL ON SUMMER DAYS

I recently bought a nearly-new Hurricane for my S1 off Ebay, but it didn't come with any instructions for fitting it or for cleaning it.

Anyone know where I can find these on the web, or have a copy I could borrow? I'm happy to reimburse any postage costs etc.

I recently saw a guy run his new toyota engined exige up on the dyno before and after the ITG kit was fitted.

There was absolutly no gains apart from induction noise!

I would spend your money else where first.

The induction systems work best when they have forced air going into them. Being sat on a dyno, there's no air rushing into the air vent and no forced or ram effect going on at the butterfly. Probably why you get bugger all gain. I imagine once your moving at speed, they are better than just a panel filter replacement.

Sorry, off topic, what said the dyno? 189bhp?

So the dirty great big fan in the front of the dyno cell, pumping a 70mph wind onto the front of the car would have had no effect then????

Hi Tonner-nots

The kit of ebay is very similar to the Hurricane kit. The only real difference is that the hurricane uses a 70mm pipe which feeds air from the 100mm side air inlet. The ebay kit retains the full 100mm through using a 100mm tube. In my opinion it’s a better kit and cheaper. There are quite a few people who have bought them and are very satified. Check out the feedback. Why waste your money on the others. Power gains are modest if any, its all down to induction noise !!! Which is has plenty of !!!
