Ten percent plus two not a thing any more?

Just receipts a NIP from Norfolk police, travelling at 79 in a 70.

No argument from me, I remember seeing the mobile unit (too late), just that my understanding was 10% + 2 was the threshold which, at 79 I’m on rather than over.

Is this an urban myth? Does it only apply to fixed cameras?

10% plus 2 is the advised starting point for enforcement, so 79mph is the starting point. 78 should be safe!

Should be, but depends on the county. I got done for 78 in Penrith a few years back (thread on here with pics of the letter for those who doubted me); appeal upheld their original decision as they were having a ‘zero tolerance month’. Only suffered a SAC though.

How late did you see the camera e.g. just as you passed it?

Can you ask them to put you on a speed camera awareness course instead of points? Would be beneficial in helping you spot the cameras earlier.

I'm the one in the family with the 'Photoshop skillz' so am always the one asked to:

From what I've heard, they've been out all over. To be expected, really. Nice sunny days plus the need for the speed folks to get back into profit. But for those of us who see the need to slow down in places where the hazard density is high, it annoys us to see all the emphasis placed on speed vs what the lollipop states, with no regard to the person behind trying to bully you into exceeding the limit or the speed safe for the occasion. Perhaps there's some logic in there for the association of retired traffic officers augmenting their pension from courses?

I think it always depended on the mood of the individual policeman.
Cameras have whatever tolerance the local area “safety committee” deem appropriate.

BUT then Trafpol cost money, with the bean counters not having returns to show. Cameras just make money. Pity, road safety has no monetary value on the balance book.
And lest we forget, there's an organisation called SCP (or whatever today's name for it is) depending on the returns from cameras.

If you have been caught doing 79, do you know what speed your car was indicating at the time? I suspect 80+?

'interestingly' according to both satnav and those annoying your speed is x signs my speedo is bang on the money... means I will have to be a little more careful!

I was a couple of hundred metres away (at a guess) and by the image Reading had already zapped me. For safety’s sake at the time I eased off rather than did an emergency stop, would’ve been pointless anyway as they’d already got me.

I don’t use the car’s speedo really but a GPS one. So knew I was sub eighty.
