Used 991.2 C2S or new 718 Cayman GTS
Discussion
Greetings chaps! I'm in the above dilemma as this would be my only car, prices are about the same. Does anyone have any experience with both? Did you change from 991.2 to 718 or vice versa? Any regrets on that?
I've driven the new 718 GTS but it's been a while since I've been in a 991.2. I did drive the 992, but it's not the same, and it's quite a stretch of the budget to get one, I did fancy it though. 718 GTS is not a bad car either, would order it with PDK because I do a lot of city driving, but it's easy enough to live with.
Any insights to help me decide are much appreciated.

I have owned a 718 GTS [2.5 Turbo) and currently have a 718 Spyder. I have driven a 991 on a couple of occassions as a courtesy car. They are very different cars. To me the 991 is more of a GT car than a sports car - it reminded me of the 928 ( which I always wanted, until I drove one!!). The 718 on the other hand is a true out and out sports car much more suited to British B roads My advice woud be to drive both and see which you prefer.
Having swapped my base 718 Boxster for a 991.2 GTS a few weeks ago, I feel like I can provide a few insights.
A bit of context: I ran the 718 as my only car for two years having bought it as an ex-demo with 10 miles on the clock. The 991.2 had 12,000 miles when I bought it and will be my only car for the foreseeable future.
As a daily, they’re very similar. The interior architecture is pretty much the same, albeit with different air vents and dials. Therefore, your experience as a daily will be dictated by spec, e.g. leather dash, coloured stitching, etc.
On more exciting roads, their characters start to differ. The 718 is a car you can just chuck into a corner and it’ll oblige willingly, providing a smile on your face. The 991.2 is a slow in, fast out type of car, but the grip coming out of a corner is sublime. Both are rewarding cars to drive, but do so in different ways due to their engine locations.
What sets these cars apart is the 991.2’s GT credentials. As mentioned before, this is a big differentiator and makes the 991.2 a true all-rounder. I’ve taken adults in the back of the 991.2 and have big road trips planned for it - all things which I didn’t do in the 718.
In conclusion, it’s very hard choice to make. If I had to make the decision again, I’d go for the 991.2 - it’s every part as good as a 718, but with the added benefit of a GT car. Either way, you will be buying a great car and you certainly won’t be disappointed!

Not driven a Cayman GTS, but I do own a 9912 C2S and agree with the above posts that it is a fantastic GT car.
I have a Caterham for balls-out driving so my 911 is used mainly for longer trips and days out in the Brecons. The 911 feels quite a big car compared to Boxter/Elise etc but it also feels way more premium than that category. It is indecently quick for a 'cooking' model, and really capable at taking passengers and luggage on long-distance trips. You don't have to pack light in a 911, and you can take even more if you have the roof-rails & roof box (i've done this).
As it happens, i'm selling my 991.2 C2S this month. PM me if you want to know more.... there's a genuine reason for sale.& i'll be sorry to see it go. If it goes to a good home i'll be very happy for it.
I now have 5 quotes for purchase, and know what the sell price would be. We could quite easily do a deal. Car is under full OPC warranty so is a risk-free purchase.
