Where to buy half decent polo shirts?

I've been shopping today to pick up some new polo-shirts, but I've struggled to find any that actually feel worth their price relative to what you can get from Primark. I tried, M & S, H & M, Next, New Look, River Island and in the end I settled for a handful from Primary for £3.50 each. Almost all of the polo-shirts I looked at felt thin, and felt like after a wash or two they would have shrunk/lost their shape. I'm not stingy, but I'm not paying £15 for something that looks and feels similar in quality to something that costs £3.50.

Just before Xmas I bought a load of Gildan polo shirts online. I think they may have been £4-5 each. When they arrived they seemed like half decent quality for price, and had a bit more weight to them compared to the Primark ones, but they've all shrunk now.

I go through a fair amount of polo-shirts, so I'm looking for recommendations of anywhere that does reasonably priced stuff that's half decent quality. I'm also looking for some that are more expensive, and better quality to keep for 'special' occasions.

Yes, I know, don't come to me for fashion advice.

I like a polo, but wear Lacoste classic fit.
Not cheap but they last years and keep their shape, also they don't need ironing if you don't want to.

Usually £85 but I never pay more than £60. John Lewis stock them or the Lacoste online outlet.


Now before anyone flames me for 'who can afford £85 Polo shirts' I have a fairly simple wardrobe.
A coupe of nice pairs of shorts or jeans, a few nice polo shirts, a few nice collared shirts.
That's it. Essentially a wash and a change of each item, buy quality, look after it and it lasts.

It's not the trendiest designer brand, but Cotton Traders polo shirts seem to have lasted the best of of my wardrobe.

I almost chocked at paying £15 for a polo-shirt today. £85 for one, I think I'd need a paramedic. Joking aside, I have no issue paying £60-85 for a polo-shirt providing the quality matches the price.

Tk maxx is usually good hunting ground for polo shirts. Just give yourself enough time to have a proper rake through the racks.

My wardrobe has around 30 Lacoste tops now with a mix of polo and normal t shirts, some are over 5 years old and still kept their shape and don’t look old at all.

You do get what you pay for, also they’ve always got sales on with styles reduced. I think I’ve only paid top price a handful of times for them.

It’s certainly my favourite brand for tops.

A few years ago I “invested” in a couple of Ralph Lauren polo shirts. The black one hasn’t been too bad, however the blue one seemed to shrink in length by about 4 inches and reapplied that to the girth within a few washes. Gave it away to charity, so £80 down the drain. I’ve no idea why one retained its shape and the other didn’t (they were otherwise identical), but clearly you don’t always get what you pay for.

There’s probably a sweet spot of fundamental quality whilst not trading on a brand name, but I’ve yet to find it.

That's my usual hunting ground too, bought a Beverley Hills Polo Club one last week for £17 (RRP £60 if you believe those labels), seems nice quality but obviously too early to see how long it lasts though.

I bought 3 no name polos from a little back street shop in Newquay in the 90's they're still going strong, no holes or tears unlike the Calvin Klein ones (avoid).

I tried Charles Tyrwhitt a few years ago, It definitely their polo shirts were no better than the sainsburys or primark ones.

The polo shirts I own that always last the best are any that have been supplied by work over the years. They are always nice thickness and keep their shape really well. Its just unfortunate they have terrible branding on.

I like Jack Wills Eaton Stretch polos. Seem to wash okay too.

Reiss are ok, Massimo Dutti are a cheaper option, Lacoste are worth the money, RL and the 100% cotton (expensive) Hugo Boss ones will last.

Father and Sons are a lesser known option, not sure how old
you are but there are generally a ‘younger’ fit.
