Just read a post about somebody looking for car storage. There were a few recommendations for a place which looked ok, and when I checked the website it seems fine. But checking companies house the last few accounts have been for a dormant company. Why would that be?

I reckon the turnover should easily be north of £250k p.a.

If I wanted car storage this would put me off, am I missing something?

Could be a sole trader or trading via another ltd company and they want to protect the company name on companies house.

Not that unusual, I’ve done it myself in the past.

I was just curious…..

When I look at the directors they’re not running any other companies, so I don’t think it’s that.

I suppose it must be legit as they’ve some high end cars and the owners wouldn’t put there if they were sure.

How recent is the latest set of accounts? The company may have been dormant but has started trading in the period since the last accounts were filed. A company with a 31 December year end still has until the end of next month to file their 2020 stats (so the most recent ones on CH would be to 31 Dec 2019).

They’ve been filing accounts for a dormant company for the last 10 years.

That might not be relevant.

For example, I can incorporate a company, do nothing with it for 10 years and then start trading. Until I have filed the first set of post-trading accounts CH will only show the old dormant sets. I don't need to file the accounts until 9 months after the end of the accounting period so if I also took the opportunity to change the accounting reference date to 6 months later then I could delay filing the first trading accounts until 27 months after I began trading.

No. It’s not him!

This all looks kosher.
