I'm 61 with various health issues and have worked as a truck mechanic since I left school. Most of the issues I have can be related to the job, wear and tear on the joints etc.
I really need to get out but I don't want to stop working. Hours can be long and challenging, home life suffers. I knew what I was getting into but hey.
Anyone been in the same position? I'm looking on the various job sites and everything is tightly focused around relevant experience. Very frustrating and I truly have no idea what to look for.

Huge shortage of class 1/2 drivers, presumably you've already got at least a class 2 with your current job and you could walk into a vacancy with your experience of the hardware?

Trolly guy at a supermarket? Most of ours are semi retired or retired guys just looking for something to do. Or are you meaning a more serious job.

If you do have a HGV licence what about being a recovery driver? It might be shift work or just being on call, plus you might be able to fix some stuff at the roadside if you feel up to it.

My old man was similar, HGV mechanic for years.

He managed to get out over 20 years ago now.

He looked at HGV driving, Chauffeur etc but ended up buying into a black hack taxi which he has now owned outright for years and single shifts it himself.

The money back then was really good in the taxi game. It's a lot harder now, but still some decent cash to be made.

Teach?

Local college - you may need a modicum of teacher training but you'll know the subject inside out. Pass the torch on and all that.
